How to drive legal weight for California

    That's why I have a 50 foot steel tape. Eyeball it where the kingpin is, clamp it to the trailer, then stretch it out to wherever the max kingpin to center of rear axle/center of tandems is. A piece of duct tape to mark the spot when sliding tandems helps a lot.

    "50 foot steel tape." +1 (I think mine was 75 feet.) I just put it on the ground, put one end even with the kingpin, paced off 40 feet, and marked the trailer with tape. I went into CA so often that measuring became a habit. Indiana used to be 42 feet and one time I had to measure for that.
