I run day cabs. My ? Is this. If my day gets all screwed up and i run out of hours on my way back to the yard....
Is it legal for me to pull off to a safe place and allow another driver run my truck back to the yard and me drive the personal vehicle.
I would think logging off somewhere and logging back on somewhere else the next day is a problem.
is this legal

It's legal. Just stay on duty not driving and take a 10 when you get done.
Did all the time doing slip seat oil patch work.MACK E-6, mhyn, slim shady and 1 other person Thank this. -
Good question, good answer.
Finally, a productive post, LoL.Cottonmouth85 Thanks this. -

I should add when we did it we remained on the clock, remained on duty/not driving, and went off duty when clocking out at the terminal.G13Tomcat Thanks this.

How far are you from the yard normally when you run out? If it were me i would just go with it and try not to keep running out of hours.Far as your question,I think it is legal.

It doesnt happen unless there is a wreck or a breakdown. I have relays on both ends. Stuff happens. We run out on occasion.
I got the impression that we run our clock down and log off. Drive back on our personal time in a personal vehicle. -
I wouldn't be too happy bout burning my personal fuel, putting miles on a personal vehicle and not being compensated.
We did it in a company owned vehicle (non-cmv) and got paid to ride.
Started having issues with fatigued drivers driving the relay van after a shift and they assigned a dedicated van-relay driver. -
It's legal, I had to recovery a driver who ran out of hours like that. Both drivers need to stay on duty until they reach the yard.
Don't ever log off and drive, miles difference will show and you will get in a lot of troublecrunchy and Cottonmouth85 Thank this. -
It's legal, although I do agree it would be best to stay On Duty, just in case. Can you not do the 16 hr exemption though?
From https://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/regulations/title49/part/395
Basically what it says is you can have a 16 hr day once a week (last reset, or 8 days) if you return to the same place every day. Won't help the 11 hour clock though.
