Seeing more and more baby calves showing up in the fields that last couple days. One mama cow was walking along with her baby about halfway out, love that stuff.

I would say I agree but I think that depends on where it's being parked.

I like the smell of diesel and letting her warm in the morning while the sun is coming up and listening to the sound of the diesel rattle as smoke rolls out the stacks.

I think reverber8 enjoyed listening to her Dad's co- workers.

I must be getting old, I had to look up what "pearl clutching" was.

I've enjoyed reading this thread. Reminds me of what it was like when I was on the big road back in the dark days before CDL's and something called the FMCSA.... I am glad to see there are so many of you left enjoying what used to be a brotherhood of sorts. Lately with grown kids and being already vested in my pension I have given more than a passing thought to getting back out there. I was thinking it may have changed too much. I read about people being barred from driving for getting a phone ticket in their car, read about how these companies you all call "megas" now have all kinds of rules and driver facing cameras and electronic leashes. These are many of them the same companies I remember when they were smaller and a lot simpler to hire on with and work for.. I remember when JB Hunt was a little bitty runt, drove CO9670 International cab overs set at 58 mph... I remember when National and Prime was the home of the best pay and the biggest shiniest trucks. My first job trucking was in one of those International cab overs that was the ugly green of TSMT... Now I live on 10 acres a half mile north of their home terminal in Duenweg MO. I took a road trip recently out to Phoenix and put the little CB I use in our trucks at work in my pickup and was surprised to find out.. You guy's don't talk very much to each other anymore.. That was kinda sad. I drove for 8 years back then and had some of the best times of my life.. I had adventures that if I told you about them you wouldn't believe, so yeah I am glad to read that some of you are still having fun with it... Saw that speedo Cottnmouth...lol. I wonder how many of you nowadays have ever even done 100 mph in a large car? Much less had to explain it to a Utah bear coming off the backside of Soldier on the 666... I got a real story there, didn't even get a ticket :) Nearly blew that ford up trying to catch me...he he... Do any of you still run together across Texas and slow down for that bear in Van Horn? I drive dump trucks and pull low boys and equipment trailers now for the local highway department so I have a Class A I've had for years but my road experience is a bit outdated and if I ever decided to come back I'd have to find someone to get some road time with. I could just buy a truck but not knowing how really different it is I would want to drive someone else's for awhile first and I got to tell you reading some of the stuff here I am not sure I would want to work for some of those "megas". I got a job now that pays decent, about what some of you say you are making as a company driver but I have 16 paid holidays a year and weekends off.. I am home every day at 3:30 and I don't work all that hard... Still... I miss it sometimes.

For me it is FREEDOM! I am my own boss, I choose what to drive, where I haul to and what I haul. I am not beholding to someone else providing a job for me. My wife joined me on the road 10 years ago and we have had a ball seeing 49 states and half of Canada together.
