I became a truck driver.......because I needed a job.
Pork Chop Express, Toomanybikes, Puppage and 3 others Thank this. -
How has your experience with truck driving been so far? Local or otr?
-
I did OTR for 5 years. Got my experience then moved on. I just do regional now.Lucidd Thanks this.

Very nice. Do you find that you have enough free time to do whatever every day or does it feel as though your job consumes you? Trying to decide between going OTR or driving local.

My recording contract and book deal fell through, seemed like the best alternative.

It seems as though I saw one of your posts last night in regards to trying to figure out if trucking is right for you. I can tell you this, ... the first year will be the hardest by far. After you get 1 year - 18 months exp, more doors will open for you should you want to do something different.

Loved the thought of a big truck as a kid and loved to drive as a teen. Its not all its cracked up to be and I work hard for my money but the mortgage gets paid and momma gets a new toy every once i a while.
Lucidd Thanks this. -
Yeah it seems as though most truckers would rather do something else.. blah. I should start taking their advice before i really get into something i don't want to do. I mean like, if MOST people tell me to do something else, do i honestly think i'll be any different and LOVE the job? I mean, i may. But the chances are slim, and are definitely not worth risking. I thought i'd be fine with trucking since i love being alone. But were talking, being alone most of the day every single day. Like 23 hours a day. Me alone in my truck, with perhaps an animal. Could i really do that? With not much time to socialize on a daily basis? I don't think so. I think frequent human interaction is beneficial for a healthy human brain. I think i'd literally go insane now that i think about it. Looks like i'll be finding something else. I still don't mind using this forum and reading everyone's posts though.
It's very nice to know that most truckers warn other people just so they know what their getting themselves into. Lots of nice people it seems.
