A good coordinator, is an asset. Abed one can be too, you just got to know what question to ask, like how many trucks in the area, how many loads out of that area in the last few days. Etc.

A good coordinator makes all the difference in the world. Some people get lucky and get a good one from day 1 (I did). Others get the brand new guy (I later did).
I think finding the right mixture between the preferences I have my coordinator set and the ones I look through plays a key part. It allows my coordinator to see the big paying loads without him calling me 30 times a day about $1.50 loads. And me to see a lot of loads he can't see. For me this works as 50% of my loads I'm never matched to. -
Oh don't get me wrong, I wasn't saying coordinators are bad and don't use them. Coordinators are definitely assets, however, you aren't their only truck and have the ability to look at the load board as well, use it.

About 60% of myself finding my loads off the board. But when I find one, I call and ask my coirdinator's opinion. Sometimes it's good idea, sometimes he tells me a bunch of trucks are sitting where it would go to, so it's a bad idea.

I'm about 95% booking myself. But my coordinator is clutch when I'm on a dead area.

During the stone age, there was about 750 trucks. that was back in Jan 1989. Sold out in March 2011 and took 9 months off to take care of some family business. Signed back on Dec 2011
Old number 2342, new number 13149. Mercer has a lot of us 4 digit # that left for awhile, and came back, and now have a zip code
So I was here 22 years left for 9 months, been back 4 plus years.spyder7723 and Razorwyr Thank this. -
That's about how I was with this coordinator at first. But now we work good together. He often isn't looking in the area I am (I do a good job of that) but finds the $$$ loads in other areas a week or so out. Then we will fill the loads I between with good paying stuff. He really helps with knowing where I need to get to so I can make it to my $$$ load. Also when I tell him I need to get to a new area he gets me to that new area (or a place that I can get there easily). That really helps me follow the money patterns. On the down side, when I tell him that I'm heading to a new area, he has 2-3 trucks follow me there. Doesn't hurt me butttttttt...........,

I have read 90% of this thread, valuable information. Real close to filling out app, can someone tell me do they have a age limit on truck, or is it just as long you can hook to Elog system? Live in central IL. Off I55 between Chicago and St. Louis hopefully it's a good freight lane for short runs

I have heard some stories about bad coordinators. I guess I got lucky out of the gate. I've really been trying to look at the board more trying to be a little more independent. I suppose as long as I'm making money I'll just ease into booking my own loads.
