I left in 2000, they might have changed things since that deadly hijacking they had on I-24 s.e. of Nashville right after 9-11.
The bus rolled over after that guy slashed the drivers throat. Multiple fatalities. There was a t.v. crew riding with the coroners unit. The camera guy crawled into the upside down bus and video'd the fatalities.

I didn't think the gov't allowed ICE to detain people anymore. Are you sure you're not taking them to the welfare office and free housing?51.50 Thanks this.

They put them in corporate owned prisons.... Greyhound usually has the trashiest of the trash riding those buses...... One time a drunk sneaked onto a bus and sat in the back row, the guy stank like an overflowing sewer, and must've had severe Tourette's, because he sat there yelling at himself for the 3 hour ride between Rochester and buffalo. Then again there is no short ride with those bus companies, even a trip between Des Moines IA and Fargo takes 24 hours with all the stops,,,, most of those stops are in the worst neighborhoods possible, so you have to deal with all the crazies, drunks, and drug addicts. My current company offered me a flight to orientation last year but with all the stuff I had to cram in 2 very heavy bags, plus the thought of having to drag out my CB, satellite radio, phone, CPAP and laptop for the homeland security idiots left me with little choice but to opt for the trash hound.

Here's a tip if there's a next time - pack everything you need including clothing etc. into the small moving boxes at Home Depot and drop them off at UPS or FedEx, ship them to your new companies shop or the hotel your staying at for orientation then ride the plane with a carry-on.
That's what I do even going on vacation if it's a domestic destination, cheaper than the fee's for checked baggage and better odds that it will all arrive in tact. If I can't carry it on the plane and I'm not leaving the US I use UPS as my luggage porter.Voyager1968, TB John, sam_j and 2 others Thank this. -
Drivers were often at odds with station management. The managers would just try to shovel all the "trash" onto the buses, that way they didn't have to deal with those trashy people.
We had a manager in Indianapolis who ordered a driver to take a drunk. The driver refused, so he was fired and the manager drove the bus, with no CDL, no training, no Med Card, No logbook, and no premission from the co..
Manager later got fired and driver was reinstated.
We had lots of drivers get fired, but the union almost always got them their jobs back. I knew 1 driver in Dallas who had been fired 3 times.skinnytrucker Thanks this. -
I've taken greyhound twice. Once as a teenager, and again when I started my first trucking job. I told myself then that it would be my last time taking the bus. If you work hard, and are responsible with money, greyhound shouldn't even be in your vocabulary.
My company now reimburses you very nicely if you're traveling from one point to another. They even pay you miles if you ride with someone else to another location. Last time I needed to get from Atlanta to Texas and was paid 600, which covered the price of a plane ticket, and 250 leftover. -
America Works Best When We Say Union-YES!
Too bad OTR drivers aren't organized... No wonder these trucking companies get away with all the BS they pull.skinnytrucker Thanks this. -
Prof Gringo is right! With Qualcomm, cameras in the truck it is time to pay OTR drivers hourly. Traffic jamb's , waiting time, loading and delivery time should all be paid hourly. None of these delay's are the drivers fault.
DoubleO7 and skinnytrucker Thank this. -
YES! You are my hero....I wish I could do that! I'd sing THE RIGHT WAY OR THE HIGHWAY....flushing Americas toilet!bigjoel Thanks this.
