Umm no. If you can't afford to pay a shop to get your truck fixed then something is wrong. I have no interest in coming home on the weekend and being a mechanic too. I'll gladly pay the shop to work on my truck while I enjoy my off time.

I don't work on my truck but I do minor things but most important is knowing how you truck and it systems work and having a mechanic you can trust.
If you just take it to the dealer and say fix it you will get hosed.
You have to know what they are talking about and ask questions, you may have to put some non pressing repairs off while you take care of the real problems.
If you have a relationship with a mechanic at home you can discuss repairs on the road to make sure your not getting screwed .
I have my mechanics and the owner of the shops cell number, I have the gate code and they have a key to my truck.
Overhaul time is coming and I will go to Missouri to buy all the parts, better price and no tax. Should get a full inframe and bull gear for around 10k, try that at your local dealer.

 

Is that OEM Detroit parts?

Id sure hope so for that price. An inframe on a detroit at decent shops around here is 6k out the door. Bull gear would obviously add more but not 4k more.

 

Exactly. I didn't think you would be the type to cut corners but I've heard of a lot of people lately "getting the parts cheaper". Not sure what they are getting but they wouldn't go on my truck lol.

At a Detroit dealer with 3 year warranty? If so I'm going down to FL for my inframe.
