I've been too lazy to look for other threads on this so here I go. Since most states , I don't believe all as of yet but then again I live under a rock most of the time . with it being $15 PR hour , I'm no mathematician but I would think if you figure in your hours + logged on duty time and it equals out to be less then the minimum wage could that be considered loss of wages or claimed on taxes ? I know this would be a nightmare to keep track of and prove for those on paper logs and most companies rather hire a bus load of driver from Elkgrove Village IL before they Jack up wages but since supposedly organizations like the OOIDA are in support of truckers why don't any of us hear equal wages for us too? I don't think hourly pay will ever be possible , I've even mentioned salery to my employer (very small mom and pop operation) then their is no argument of it. Plenty of other jobs pay salery and run their employees into the ground to get every dollar out of them . what would be a fair CPM, Salery to match the $15 min wage laws. Or can someone come and break down the numbers enough if I'm misunderstanding the thought behind it. We all know a lot of companies are not living hand to mouth like they try to say they are. It's just typical American greed . point being its got to fall in place for us too right? Heck if you can flip a burger for $15

The minimum wage only applies to human beings.
Toomanybikes, 77fib77, Dave_in_AZ and 1 other person Thank this. -
Just where do you live that the minimum wage is $15/hour?
And just because someone is salaried does not make them exempt from either minimum wage or overtime laws.
I don't know which hours you are counting towards your minimum wage calculations but I bet it's more than needed.
If you think you are worth more than you are making, then start to shop yourself around on the market. Might be a better paying job out there just waiting for you to apply.
Good Luck -
1) most of us don't get paid by the hour, so that is somewhat irrelevant.
2) most of us make more than $15/hr of time worked, if you don't, you need to find a better job.MidWest_MacDaddy, TequilaSunrise and CJndaTruck Thank this. -
Hmmm...Good thread here,
Lets just see how right Razorwyr is with his arithmetic..
Average OTR salary from a Mega-carrier is what? .40 cents a mile?
We'll use a nice solid number of 40 cents. Lets say a driver drove 2500 miles per week (although nothings guaranteed for the driver as opposed to an hourly burger flipper)
So where are we.. 2500 times .40 equals $1,000 gross.. Now its going to take a minimum of 60-70 Hours (12-14 per day)worked for the week to obtain this 2500 miles ..
Yes,Keyword,HOURS worked NOT just driving.....So now your down to about 14-15 per hour
So, With minimum wage hovering OVER 10 per hour in many cities.....You,As an OTR driver away from family,Stressing out,Are making approx. 4-5 dollars more per hour than a Burger Flipper in some spots.
The Burger-Flipper will actually Live Better ,With a Life.
Point is........YOU,As a Company, OTR Driver Should Never be working for Less Than a Stellar Wage, I Mean Close to 6 figures as a Company-Paid Employee, Just the Sacrifices Alone Warrant that Wage!!
Who else Agrees?tsavory, hunted, bigmotor1212 and 2 others Thank this. -
I agree, but what the OP was stating was that the minimum wage is being raised to $15.00 in some states with many others to follow. I think CA and NY are already on board...
-
Well to be honest, burger people don't work pass 40 hours in a week...
Bean Jr. Thanks this. -
Oh I know......

you want to Live a Life? Smart guys know what to do.Grouch, hunted, bigmotor1212 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Ya they do, it's not just burger people it's any job that's at minimum wage will be going up, so lots of different low paying jobs with lots of people working more than 40 hours a week
-
That's where I was going with it. Not just burger flippers but it's a easy go to. As minimum wages go up will the rest follow. I don't follow world economics and how it affects everything else but companies will feel the pressure from employees at some point
