A golden rule of driving period you never steer to avoid a collision. Especially in a truck though I am glad it all worked out for him.

Reason for edit: Support our troops?tucker Thanks this. -
So who's insurance is footing the bill for that truck and trailer and the drivers medical expenses ...?
-
The driver of "Phantom 309" and Red Sovine would beg to differ.
That said, my rule is maintain control and square up for the hit, unless it's my fault (unlikely), then I'd probably take it off the road.sourdiesel and TROOPER to TRUCKER Thank this. -
I'm not sure I'd follow that rule when driving a fuel tanker unless you have dental records on file so they can identify you after the fire burns itself out.
A former safety director (who use to be a state trooper) said "if you gotta ditch the truck to avoid hitting and/or killing someone in their vehicle, at least scrape some paint to prove there was another vehicle involved, otherwise it just looks like you wrecked all by yourself"Lepton1 Thanks this. -
huh? perhaps i misunderstand your intent, but i have used my steering wheel to avoid a lotta collisions in various vehicles thru my driving life. how exactly do you handle an oncoming car drifting into your lane if you won't steer to avoid it?

A dab of paint. Put it on the other vehicle.
If you gonna smash, get a piece of that other sumgun.
Just don't kill him. -
Wait, so the rules laid out in the DMV CDL handbook are a lie? It says the opposite, that you are more likely to avoid a crash by driving to the side rather than trying to stop in time. Gotta love being a noob (me).
