No, never driven before. First career is civil engineering.

OK, so you gonna stop doing engineering and start doing trucking? Then you absolutely need to drive somebody's else truck for at least a few months before making a commitment buying a new truck and just to see if you like it.
Even though it seems simple, just get a truck and start driving, it's not

Duncan Rider and AM14 Thank this.

So do that, put your year in a company truck and then worry about this later. I had a buddy who got it in his head one day that he was gonna go buy a shiney new 389 before he even had a license. He wound up failing the cdl test 3 times, gave up on trucking and that poor Pete just sat until he sold it for a terrible loss. Don't go buying anything just yet. This isn't for everybody. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

Looking at 12-16 years in the industry. I'll calculate you're 45-50 years old at this stage.

In that case - buy. A new glider at 140k over 12 years will serve its purpose with much less maintenance than you'll pour into leasing equipment.

    What freight sector?

Lepton1 and Duncan Rider Thank this.

Ok - now we're talking. You'll need that experience before moving forward.

Thanks a lot. Just not to thrilled about what I read about some of the company lease to own programs. I'm not rich by any means, but want to make smart financial decisions. I've always wanted to drive, now I'm at a place in my life to make it happen.

Come back and ask again if you survive the first year, 80% don't, it all isn't grins and giggles out here, if I would have to gone out for six weeks with a trainer 40 years ago I would probably be getting out of prison about now.
