How do truckers keep cool in the summertime (or warm in the winter) while sleeping in their truck at a truckstop? Do you idle the whole time with the AC on or heater? Do you worry about the truck overheating like a car would? I'm just curious.
Thanks
WHAT DO YOU DO?

I continuously idle to keep comfortable and to contribute to global warming.

I'm in my truck three nights a week. I work South Texas. No one in my company had said a word about me idling my truck to sleep comfortably. Trucks do fine idling. As long as your coolant is filled and your #### is taken care of you need not worry about over heating.

I don't like idleing but we are in to that time of year where it becomes a nessesity unless you have an apu , I have an espar heater in my truck so I dont idle in the winter until the outside temp goes below 10 ....I got layed over in Laredo TX last weekend and my truck ran all weekend ..with fuel creeping back up again for it will soon be more cost effective to get a motel as opposed to long idleing periods .

Apu, or idle. Nice to idle when need to without it shutting off. I don't like it idle all night, just a few times to recharge the batteries sometimes

Cars have trouble overheating when idling?
Dave_in_AZ Thanks this. -
Diesel engines, especially the ones in trucks don't have a problem idling, they are built for heavy duty use. There are some trucks that are literally never switched off except when they are serviced. Many also have APU's. Auxiliary Power Unit, which is another diesel engine !!! It's just a very small one, it drives an auxiliary air conditioner, and alternator for power, it uses 1/10 the fuel the regular engine does, and the big engine is switched off when it is in use. My one truck had a feature that would start the APU automatically when the truck engine was switched off. The APU also has its own control in the sleeper and will shut down if the desired temperature is reach, when it gets too hot, it starts all by itself.

I wear a climate suit that moderates my bodies temperature.

I just lay there in my sweat, on my 6 month old sheets. I dream I'm on the beach, laying in the surf. I don't have any showers to use because I have them to that stinky hippy dude in the other thread.
Dave_in_AZ and rachi Thank this.
