Question for all you O/Os out there:

A buddy and I were chatting this week and the following question came up:
Can we haul cars into Canada and back? Is there a market for that?
We were just curious to know....

Dumb question here, but how difficult is it to obtain Canada authority?

Yes - Cross border car haul is no different then any other form of cross border trucking.

Markets and economy. IE - One day all the auction stuff is going north, next day, all south.

Example - there are some car haul out fits in Canada that made their names and grew their companies soley by moving "snow bird" cars north and south. LaBerge from Ste Gregorie Quebec is one. They now have most of the Chrysler work in Eastern Canada.

Authority in Canada isn't much different then authority in the US. It costs money. If you think you can secure the work, then get the authority. Canadian trucks can't 'interstate' and US trucks can't 'inter-province'.

Mind you I've been out of the game now for awhile and rules change for everything all the time, so Google it.

I'm not sure how much, if any traffic goes into Canada. However there was or is a company hauling 3 trips a week out of Canada into Manheim, PA auction location. Can't recall the company name though. And I mean using a real transport truck, not a P/U and a wedge.

    Thanks for the reply guys.
It seems like hauling into Canada and back is realistic, but not as simple as using Central Dispatch.
Definitely something we're going to look into though.
    Thanks a bunch

Expediters International 734-857-5150 or FedEx Trade Networks 810-966-3620 can help process Border Crossing paperwork when you get to that point.

With the U.S. dollar real strong right now in Canada, a lot of Canadian used cars are flooding the U.S market and also being shipped overseas from U.S seaports....That said, not many used cars going the other way right now....It goes in cycles, 8-10 years ago it was the opposite flow....You should be able to tap into something by making the right connections, good luck....
