Is it just me or is the reefer freight for Washington, Oregon, and Cali slowing down. I went from averaging 2250 - 2500 mile per week to 1500 - 2000 a week in the last month. Don't get me wrong I still get the occasional long load to southern Cali, but for the most part it's short runs ( 500 - 600) if that and then sitting till the next day. My last check if I count the miles of the trips I couldn't get the paperwork in on time I would of only had 2750 - 3000 for two weeks. Worst pay period I have ever had. Had a good week this week though 2900 ish.

It seems it's across the board lots of drivers are saying the same thing. They were talking on the news the other night about the economy slowing down.

The economy worldwide is slowing except for Germany which is growing.
It's complicated to understand, but much of it is due to China's middle class growing and demanding higher wages. Chinese companies are moving factories to other Asian countries due to labor costs being cheaper in those countries. Millions of Chinese are losing their jobs; no sympathy from me on that one.gokiddogo Thanks this. -
Been teaming with my co driver with a small outfit for over 5 yrs. All produce from Santa Maria south to the east coast drive all the miles you can stand. Its non stop want a load take it. Want to go home and relax so be it make your own schedule. So many loads going to the east coast. Thing is this time of year most states can grow there own with the weather being excellent. So you may feel a slow down depending on what you do. In the winter months demand is great so in turn you will be much busierrabbiporkchop and Joe Dan Thank this.

I think I am ok with going out east lol. Bin there done that. That is why I work for a company based in Oregon that only runs west coast. That is one of the reasons I am curious why it's slowing down cause if they were only shipping locally I would still be one of the ones doing it. Guess that would explain all the short loads recently though.

You're right slow is the new fast. Yes, I am not making sense, but let me elaborate. Where are you getting your Slow freight from? Brokers then brokers then more brokers. You need to find your customers. Many forget and get comfortable. However, in trucking comfortable can get real expensive. How is the heck can a dude that speaks no English put 50 trucks in the last five years. All reefer and from Fresno. I'll tell you. In trucking, it's not what you know, it's who you know. I'll give you example companies, but you can research them yourself. Most of them are from Fresno, CA. I am not saying those people are morons because of their pronunciation. But I am saying that the customers are taken and what they brokers have is seasonal clients. What a scam huh. Brokers use our equipment and get the credit for it. Take out the middle person huh? Yes, indeed. Sometimes a day job seems better. There is always a way to circumvent this deter. Either you can go owner operate for these companies, not the brokers, or you can struggle. Ouch. trucking is painful. Learn to learn. Yes, the backhaul sucks from WA or OR unless you're of course a Company of 10 or more trucks because then they come to you.

Well said, but I am a company driver not a O/O lol. It was only slow for about three weeks and now I am running my butt off again. Just put in 2900+ in the last 7 days. If I do ever become an O/O I will lease onto the company I work for to get a feel for it then try to go independent direct.

Wegmans and Weis Markets are ordering the same amount of produce they've always ordered. There's no slow down on the amount of produce coming out to northeast Pennsylvania so I'm not sure why you are having your miles cut back unless you live in a bad area

It's mainly due to my company only running cali,Oregon, and Washington. I work for a small family owned outfit.
