I had one truck, the dash lights would go out, during the day you don't notice but at night it is creepy because you don't know how fast your're going.
It was intermittent and went away on its own.
Another truck I drove, be in cruise contrl and boom all of a sudden engine shuts down and lights go off for about 3 seconds. No power steering and you're like WTF. Then it restarts itself at 65 miles per hour like nothing happened. \
I hate putting my truck in the shop to fix something because the shop boys will break 3 other things.Toomanybikes Thanks this. -
Here you go.... http://www.freedomtruckcenters.com/...9295&etid=1&dlr=1&bcatid=27&Manu=WESTERN+STAR
4 trucks and 3 have less than 44 miles on them. Every one of them under 160k. And to top it off, FET is included in the price that you see.CasanovaCruiser Thanks this. -
Ok then hang in there and once you get back to the terminal talk to the terminal manager. There's not one company that doesn't have issues. What you have experienced should not have happened but it did and chances are something like that will never happen again.

Are you going to say that, when it shut's down for you on the Dan Ryan Expressway, or the GW Bridge at rush hour? And then you go through the same nightmare the OP went through to get to someone to report it, only to be told, "well it's done that before...."?
"Oh, let me pull up my big boy panties and let's see what happens" would not be the first thing said by me.....Western flyer, Toomanybikes, drvrtech77 and 1 other person Thank this. -
They're cheap because they don't have to be shipped as far(Washington isn't that far from the factory in Oregon). Also, new truck sales have been slow in recent months (soft market/ too much capacity). In other parts of the country, prices may vary. Me personally I could do better with a used truck with a rebuilt or new engine and pay a third of what the current going rate is for some these trucks.

True, but I'd personally rather creep down the road to find at least a "safer" place to pull over.
For example, anything beats sitting just beyond the crest of a hill on the side of a road with no shoulder.Lonesome Thanks this. -
No dude...
The WS 5700 doesn't even break the $175k mark you quoted when leased from lone mountain for 5 years and thats the total cost with "interest" and a $12k down payment.
Not to mention a WS is a league above the fleet trucks these companies are purchasing. A 2016 Cascadia Evolution comes in at a total of $148k after all payments.
Over $200k? Maybe for a 360" wheelbase with a shower and a kitchen.cnsper Thanks this. -
I'm not just talking about about Western Star tractors though. Freightliners,Peterbilts and other makes can cost just as much or more. Sometimes prices vary by region. And lets not forget at least for the time being, there's a glut of trucks on the market(overcapacity)so manufacturers will drop prices to "move the metal"(we're already into the 2017 model year).Last edited: Jun 28, 2016
