Ok, I will ask anybody who hasn't OWNED one to not chime in. I'm looking at a 2013 Lonestar with a maxxforce. It has 700,000 kms on it. Built early 2012. It had a replacement engine 1 year ago at 500k. I've been told a lot of the maxxforce issues were taken care of and the later replacement engines are much better. Does anybody have first hand knowledge of this?
And... I know talking deletes is a no go but I'm told it works well, any idea where I can go to talk with somebody who has done it? Hopefully that does not break the rules???
Thanks

I was in 2 different prostars with them. I really didn't have alot of problems other that the egr going out on them. But the company I was with did away with the maxxforce and went with Cummins as soon as they could. Heard all kinds if horror stories, or maybe driver stories. I personally would stay away.
Elroythekid Thanks this. -
if it had 500 on it and now on the second motor you need you ask any more
RERM Thanks this. -
I ask more because the first motor would be a late 2011 or VERY early 2012 build. Lots if problems. But the second engine would be a late 14 early 15 build. I'm told a different version. Same problems? Mechanics at international say no. Then there is the delete option... I'm going to be more regional next year so no US issues as far as getting caught down there with a deleted truck.

Well if it helps I've noticed Crete is still buying new maxforce prostars and I had a conversation with the IH dealer in Idaho falls who told me the new ones are better .
But after my experience with my 2012 I try not to even walk close to one .48Packard and Elroythekid Thank this. -
That's funny, I have my 13 780 volvo sold, because of the high us dollar a new one is approaching $190k with warranties so mine is worth a lot. I bought mine when our dollar was way up over the US dollar so for 4 years my cost of ownership is crazy low. I'm looking at switching to a more regional job and I planned on just buying and older 01 to 07 truck, have no payment and cash left over, but then this thing pops up for a crazy low price.
And I like me a Lonestar........bzinger Thanks this. -
I had a 2012 Prostar...with a MaxForce, it was always breaking down, to many to list here but was towed 11 times no fault my own, it just out right died side of the road and one time at an intersection. Spent more time in motels with that truck, got to a point where I hated to drive by a dealership. EGR valves, DPF filter issues, multiple oil leaks would develop...the list goes on and on and on....I would never ever drive with another MaxForce engine again, don't care what year it was. I have a Cummins now, much better.

Gota say I loved my prostar eagle , but that dang maxxfarse lol... Might not be a bad deal if you can pay cash and afford the headaches and down time.
-
Definetly paying cash, but want to avoid the headaches. Would like to talk to someone who deleted one.

I love a prostar to. If IH had a glider option for them the game would be over. Best riding aero truck on the market, they turn great, are quite with the windows up. Alot nicer truck than a crapcadia or volvoTygr Thanks this.
