Hello all, I am curious how it works while a new driver is out with his/her trainer? Do you sleep in the back of truck at same time? Does the company cover a Motel? Seems like it would be pretty strange to be sleeping in the back with another person you do not know. I am a bit on the heavy side and am not sure how the top bunk would hold...
Thank you and be safe driving!

the PROPER way of training is, the trainer sits in the jump seat, and YOU drive for x amount of hours. if YOU are tired, and you WILL get tired, YOU TELL the trainer about it, he should tell you to get to the rest area (at least) and then a switch over is made, and he/she drives.
when it comes to "bedtime" and that can be at ANY TIME, you both go into the sleeper, to your respective bunks, and well, sleep.
now, that's the way it SHOULD BE.
however many times, the trainer WILL run as a team, at the very least, when he/she feels comfortable enough to start doing this.
it is NOT right, but this is how SOME company driver trainers do it.
motels MAY BE paid for if the a/c (or in winter) heater does not work, or the truck is in a shop. not too many other reasons for a motel, and yes, the company (or the trainer) pays.G13Tomcat and Teddy_Salad Thank this. -
You both sleep in the bunk. I know schneider will pay for a motel every night if your trainer is the opposite sex, but it's not common to be in a motel during otr training.
I had a big guy sleep on top before, it holdsG13Tomcat and Teddy_Salad Thank this. -

When I was a trainer I got the bunk and the student got to sleep across the dog house. Of course that was back in the good old days. LOL!!

First of all your trainer is going to want to know if you like movies about gladiators or men in Turkish bathes.
Now if he keeps touching your hand on the gear shift, or your leg, don't get alarmed. Just tell him it's making you uncomfortable.
For all trainees & trainers I recommend you eat Stagg Dynamite Hot chili strait from the can, just before lights out.fargonaz, RustyChops41, Giuseppe Ventolucci and 6 others Thank this. -
When I trained for Schneider I slept on the bottom bunk and the trainee slept on the top one. Didn't seem weird to me, why do you think they put two bunks in the trucks?
