what to do when "calming down" doesn't work?

If you've reached a point in trucking that you've had enough..Its time you sit down and think (By yourself or with your spouse) About options.......

If you continue to be a driver and be miserable,, ITS NOT GONNA WORK... 2 things will happen
1.Your gonna kill someone or
2.Your gonna kill yourself healthwise

You need to find peace...A Good company to work for- Or try another career.

I've seen so many drivers over the years (Mostly guys in poor health living outside of urban areas) CONTINUE to drive and be miswerable- Then you find them dead in their trucks via a heart attack or stroke.

 

Stop and get a massage, it always works!

 

What's really pissing you off? This job, riding down the road listening to music is enjoyment to me. Only frustrating thing is traffic but 99% of the time I'm in peace

Pick up a lot lizard...

 

I put a life-size image of my ex-wife in the center of the spot I'm backing into. Nail it perfectly every time. Seems to always make me happy.

 

Sounds like the adventure and excitement part of trucking is over. there's no real challenge for you in driving anymore. so your becoming cranky and moody pretty much all the time. and you are taking real notice to the problems you didn't think about before. ''boredom''. or as the fmcsa calls it. fatigue. when you feel yourself getting in that mindset. take a break and return to work when you feel less fatigued. what i use to do. is stop off at a walmart or shopping mall. and walk around checking stores and products. when i couldn't do that. I kept a few art supplies with me. and i would work on different home designs or a garage shed. i also use to and still do have some high end rc cars that i like to mess with. many see them as a silly toy. I seen it more as a medical treatment. I use to keep quite a few books on with me to read. I would get book that would encapsulate my mind. I would have to say the worst thing you can do outside of nothing. is sit in the bunk watching tv. I would take a bicycle with me. in your down time you can ride it to the nearby stores. or down to a museum or movie theater. or any place you want.
