Some models of trucks come with various hood lengths. You don't need all the room running a mid-sized diesel, and it helps maneuverability (and weight transfer, though that's not a big deal on a set-back steer,) too. I think it was Jim Palmer who had a whole fleet of short-nose Century's, and they really looked strange.

JB runs a lot of those stubby hood trucks. They do look goofy.

I've seen a few that should just be cabovers. Hood looked like it was 6 inches...
