The reason all the areo prototype trucks have mirrors is until dot changes the rules to allow the use of cameras instead of mirrors mirrors will not be going anywhere even if cameras are augmenting them. It won't take but a few years to have mirrors gone if the rules change right now that would be one of the easier improvements for an areo design.

I always wondered how a truck would perform if set up like a locomotive with a prime mover diesel engine/alternator supplying power to traction motors at each wheel, sorta like big mining trucks.
j_martell, Dominick253, MJ1657 and 1 other person Thank this. -
I think the biggest obstacle would be how well the motors would handle the crappy roads (pot holes, frost heaves the size of speed bumps, uneven road-to-bridge joints) and chemicals from ice melt. Loco tracks are relatively smooth compared to roads, and mine trucks don't run the kind of miles we would. Durability is a major hurdle.

I'm sorry, wait, no I'm not. I am a big hood kinda man. But I like the looks of that truck. Some big ole stove pipes up the back and paint the front fenders and skirting black. And I would be proud to drive it!Dominick253 Thanks this.

2000 hp 3700 ft/lbs ugly or not I can live with that lol
j_martell and Dominick253 Thank this. -
I've wondered that too. Caterpillar seems to not like that route since almost all their mining trucks are mechanical drive.
