My boss wanted me to hook to a reefer trailer for a few days. I've pulled them before but that was at least 15 years ago. Man, things sure have changed.
The trailer he wanted me to pull has the keypad-thing you see in the accompanying photo. At first, I thought it was a keypad lock for the vent/pulp door on the rear but when I opened the right trailer door, I realized the trailer doesn't have a vent door on it. I don't have a clue what that keypad is for.
Also, this trailer has what appears to be 3 or 4 recessed lights in the roof (8"-12" long LEDs). The fixture has what appears to be a gray button in the center of each rectangular fixture but using my broom to push the button has no effect.
Any reefer-haulers have any idea about either one or both of the items?

Any idea what this is?

looks like it should control some kind of bolt / locking device inside the door. Never seen one of those either!
88 Alpha Thanks this. -
It's a keypad for something
ZhenyaP1991, yuban, x1Heavy and 5 others Thank this. -
I concur.x1Heavy, 6daysontheroad and tucker Thank this.

I deserved that. Might should have titled the thread a little differently.

that looks like an electronic keypad for an intrenal lock for the rear door...(?).
-
That sounds like it is similar to an electronic lock on a gun safe. If that is the case, apparently it has been disabled. When I picked up the empty trailer, I was able to open both rear doors simply by pulling up on the (4) door-latches like you normally would. No bells, whistles, sirens, or alarms went off when I opened the doors.
Also, I was under the impression the trap door/vent door on the right rear door was a standard feature on reefer trailers. Since this one doesn't have one, does that mean those little doors have become an optional item?x1Heavy Thanks this. -
Start punching in random sequences of numbers, see what happens....
firemedic2816 and tucker Thank this. -
And yes, the vent doors seem to be optional. I'd guess that fewer than 20% of our trailers have them. Really annoying, because I sometimes pick up preloaded sealed trailers, and I have no way to see how it's loaded.

After I got empty this morning, I did that very thing. I entered some codes that are common with keypad devices. You could hear an electronic tick when I pressed the digits, but that's all there was, just ticks corresponding to keypad entries. Nothing else happened.x1Heavy Thanks this.
