Phone lines...

I don't know. I'm not a line man. In the moment i was expecting a big zap at any second. After the fact once my brain was able to process anything more elaborate than oh sheet this is gonna hurt! I started thinking the weight of the snow had caused it to sag or a pole had come down. Had ran that route before and never noticed any low lines so was competent caught off guard. And it was night so that led to not not seeing it till practically hitting it. Maybe half a second warning. At that moment I'm fairly certain i was expecting to get cut in half.

 

How did they find out?

 

I am not a wrecking ball or anything, but I stopped reporting mishaps for that very reason. Last year my coworker hit a route approved bridge that we've been going under for over 20 years.

BAM, lost his safety bonus and broke his 22 year safety streak.

Not even two months later a junior driver did the same thing after everyone was briefed NOT to go under it anymore. He didn't say a word to anyone about it. He got to keep his bonus. Everyone else got pissed but then followed suit

I once ran over a water pump on a construction site. It blew out a trailer tire. I pondered for a minute on how to explain it to my dispatcher. I said "hey boss, I got a flat" but left the details out that lead to it.

I think I single handedly took out the cable and phone wires for an entire block in the Flatlands neighborhood of Brooklyn. Outside the statute of limitations, now. I didn't report, and company never heard anything. Probably got blamed on a trash truck

 

Running up Columbia Rd into Bay Village must be touchy in the winter. Southbound doesn't look bad, but it seems like they drop about six feet to the other side of the road. I was a bit nervous the first time I drove thru in the summer.

The phone line to my house is the same way. I borrowed a 53' van trailer from a friend when we moved, and when I parked along the curb to move stuff in, I had to pull up a couple feet to get the doors open. My block long residential street gets a surprising number of trucks on it, and I can't believe it hasn't been pulled down.

 

Oh yeah, that's my neighborhood over there, well kind of not Bay Village exactly I don't live there, but not very far away. Those lines do slant, there are times when I'm driving and I'm kind of on the wrong side to make sure I clear the lines.

You ever do the KFC on Columbia in Westlake? Oh I have a stop on Friday right across the street from the South Euclid, KFC and they have this way low hanging goofy power line in the back that my truck just barely squeezes under.

Another thing I am tired of is tree branches and crap like that, our trucks trim plenty of tree's sometimes with the stops we go to and were we go it's unavoidable.

 

I knocked down power lines in a town with the dump truck.The entire neighborhood was without power for a few hrs till the electric company came.The guy told me to dump my dirt here so I did.After that I always remembered to make sure no power lines or trees before raising the dump..

 

I have knocked down two internet cables.
First was while dropping a trailer at a new (to us) auto parts store. They directed me to where they wanted me to park, and as I was pulling ahead just a little bit hooked the wire with the front of the trailer and pop goes the internet to the store.
Second was a private resident, who thought he was a cable tech. and hung his own wire too low. Tried to blame me for it. Company laughed at him. And told me to be more careful.
