I've seen more police on the interstate in Illinois and Indiana this week than in a long time,
North of Fort Wayne they were working the construction zones, and I won't alert anyone on the cb about them either, I was grinning from ear to ear when I saw the big truck and a 4 wheeler pulled over.

It's not going to end anytime soon and there's no sense in saying why all over again. The cell phone is here to stay, and sadly, crashes from distracted drivers is as well. Driving is a boring job, and the cell phone offers some relief from that boredom. It's like a drug to an addict, too attractive to pass up. If I was teaching people to drive a truck, I'd get a bunch of older Volvo's, and have the students crash into a car. THIS is what can happen, but "shock therapy" has been tried before, with limited results. I guarantee you, you experience a crash in a loaded 18, like I have, you won't want to do THAT again. After I crashed the truck, (10% my fault) the boss told me, "you are now an experienced driver, you know what can happen", and he was right. 34 years and 2.5 million miles later, nothing ever happened again. I saw that sedan sideways in the road in many of my dreams.

More ammo for the regulation of the device that looks ahead for stopped traffic and engages brake unless driver has foot on fuel...

Maybe if they had it tied into a temperature sensor so in winter it would not lock up the brakes if road could be icy. Make noise and flash instead.

I like the shock therapy idea but how about we put 220 up there rear when thy reach for the phone, think that might have better results.

For a forward collision avoidance system to work without too many false alarms, it will not prevent most of these crashes where there is a 60+ Mph differential and heavily loaded. They should maybe be standard equipment because they can work to break bad driving habits but they will never be expected to prevent most of the major rearend crashes we're seeing today, although they may greatly mitigate carnage.

An integrated alert system that uses the same technology that Google uses for traffic status is what is truly needed. And all new vehicles "report" speed and direction anonymously every 60 seconds. It would always look 3 miles ahead for slow or stopped traffic and alert the driver with an audible cue.

Of course this would not help in situations where a crash occurred only moments before.

I've used a number of those devices over the years, made by a number of manufacturers. They are all so faulty, with current technological limits as to be worthless wastes of money. They overreact, under react, react to bridges and signs over the road, and even react to absolutely nothing. The range on them is too limited to stop a truck with in its stopping distance. I'm not opposed to these kinds of technology, but they need a LOT of work before they can be depended on at all. The meritor wabco system in this '15 Cascadia isn't any better than the Eaton-Vorad system I had in a Century over 10 years ago. If there aren't some profound improvements soon, it'll be 20 years or more before they are usable at this rate.

I am not a luddite. But rage against the advancing pressure from those intent on making sure drivers cannot do a #### thing technologically.

Its just part of it .
Always was and always will be.....
This is the humanities)))))) of course we can put the technology is everywhere but look what happening on the roads who drives those trucks you exactly know what I'm talking about all these big companies who they put behind the wheel....
