Why do so many truckers pull into truck stops driving 1 MPH?

Before they changed Elogs I figured they drove so slow to prevent starting their clock. Afterwards I figured they were hauling something that could easily turn over. However I sometimes see guys pulling an empty flatbed that take 10 minutes to drive a block into a truck stop and slowly creep to the fuel island.

Please explain why they do this? I drive a normal safe speed when I am driving down the road and pull into the fuel island. I can get out and walk faster than these idiots creeping down the road and backing up traffic into the truck stop as everyone exiting is waiting for him to turn in and all us stuck behind him. Why?

The only thing that makes sense is perhaps they are editing their logs as they drive down the road. A lot of times they pull put of the truck stop at 1mph all the way to the exit ramp then go 76 MPH.

Its a truck stop,.. not an interstate.

I pull in at maybe 5 - 8 mph in 3rd gear and thats where I stay. I get other guys on my rear bumper trying to prod me into speeding up. I refuse. There is no need to be doing 20 - 30mph inside a truck stop.

If your in a hurry and your behind me,.. you pulled in at the wrong time.

I'm on paper logs. I have the luxury of doing things at my own pace. I have no clock I am trying to beat.

I am not talking about 5 - 8 MPH that is fine. I am referring to the guys that are barely moving from the ramp, down the road, all the way to the fuel island.

In some cases thats what they are doing. Creeping around the T/S so they dont trip the E-log.

Yes but didn't they change it so that any movement kicks you into drive?

Noise, don't want to wake people up with their engine brake, elog is an idea, but if it's under 5 minutes from the ramp to thr truck stop, then it won't trip the elog. I drive slowed because people are walking around. Usually 5mph or less.

Before people were able to drive miles without tripping the elog to change to driving if they stay under 25mph. Now it's just shorter. Usually under 5 minutes or under 15mph.
