Could it be that he has a processing disability?
I have seen this before where a person can read but have a problem processing or understanding what they read.
How does he do if you read the test questions to him?
If reading the questions to him works better an oral reading of the test may be a better option for him.

That scares me, but I could be reading too much into it.

Some just don't do well on tests and that doesn't mean they can't be a good driver.

The focus thing though, this job is way more mental than physical and safe driving requires the ability to stay focused.

Driving takes a lot more skill than the tests, so I have to agree to worry about it. This guy may be the nicest guy around, but this job isn't for everyone.

Well, folks... Let's give him a bit more time to succeed before going there.... It might just be a fear of testing or being overwhelmed.... I was nervous as all can be when I tested for my Permit...

Keep us posted when he next tests!!!

I always stress with testing, not sure why. Have him take some time, a few days, and decompress, and relax. I know this is easier said than done. Then have him study the materials for no more than 2 hours at a time with a 2 hour break. The idea is not to overload. The human brain is remarkable, but it can only absorb so much at one time.

If hes having trouble, just passing the paper test, how long is it going to take, to do a pretrip, knowing 100's of items on the truck?
Not to mention, the backing, road test, and hos rules, when finally, on the road?
Everyone thinks truck drivers are incompetant..but there is really alot of thought, involved, in making a completed, safe, truck delivery.
Good luck, hope he figures it out.

    DTP Thanks this.

I just simply take all of the online practice tests until I get them 100% all correct without a hesitation or a guess. ( Just the hazmat for me now but i will assume the others are just as good)
Pretty much the same test at the DMV here in Georgia anyhow.
I did have a cheat sheet back in 1990 though but that's another story

As an athlete the Coach would make us re-frame from certain actives before the big game. Have you tried that? Maybe the man is just wore out.
