    You can go into setting and keep it in the same time zone all the time.

    Time zone calculations are a major player in the trip planning arena. One can always just ask the smart phone what the time is for the location you need. Running around in Illinois/Indiana/Ohio, so on, can be tricky. It's an easy solution, though.

    I knew a driver who kept on of those inexpensive dash clocks, set on his home time zone so he always knew what time it was, and figured it out from that point. For me, that doesn't always work well. I set my Sirius/XM clock at the time of the home terminal, since that's where my dispatch originates. It works pretty well.

    My ELog is set on logging time. My GPS shows local time. It also shows eta in local time.

    I often go through 4 time zones in 4 days, and this time of year 2 in one day when running the southern tier. Accounting for the time differences kind of gets to be second nature after a while.

    Also be aware. If you come to rely on a blend of radio clock and cell phone clock/alarm. Sometimes a cell phone will refuse to update it's time even after going to airplane mode and back. The only way it will change is powering off then on or manually changing time.

    The point is, when going to bed and setting the alarm to make a nearby appointment and recently crossed time zones, verify the phone is at the correct time. I've known them to later change "overnight", while not moving [if it did not change when it should have].

    Also be aware that all time zone borders are not necessarily at state borders. If you're taking a 10 near/on a time zone border, expect a cell phone might switch times back and forth. In this case you may want to turn off Auto-Update Time setting.

    I have a watch set for terminal time which is Central Time. I live in Pacific Time. My GPS will show the local time for pickup or delivery in any time zone. My phone will change to whatever time zone I am in so using it for an alarm say in Pacific I have to be careful to add 2 hours to accomodate my Central time life.

    The best alarms are those old fashioned wind up clocks, set it for your terminal time and go from there. When they give you a time for pickup or delivery yes, that is the local time for that customer not your home or terminal time. So a Pacific terminal driver picking up in Virginia at 0900 would be picking up at 0600 Pacific or you could say 0900 Eastern

    Almost anytime a time is discussed in trucking, it depends who your talking to and what time zone their in. It has always been incumbent on the truck driver to adapt his time to the time zone of the customer. Some trucking companies have tried to adapt their routine to a standard time but that screws things up more then helps. You taking to or about a shipper, then your discussing their time zone. You have to be at a Consignee, then they expect you there on time in their time zone.

    About using the phone as a clock: Be aware that at the borders of the time zones the cell tower the phone is getting data from my be on the other side of the time zone, while the shipper/consignee may be on the other. Same with logging, the cell tower that informs the phone of the time may be in a different time zone then where you make your stop.
