Its not about being able to run illegal. Its about personal freedom. Its about being free to run your business as you see fit. Its about being forced to buy a device, after they put out the approved device list, that cost thousands of dollars, when 50 bucks worth of paper will accomplish the same thing. Its also about us finally drawing a line in the sand, and telling the Government enough is enough....back the heck off. If a person likes or loves their elog is entirely irrelevant. Elogs should be permitted for use. But they should NOT be required for use. Where will it all end? There is a rule making in progress right now to govern all trucks at 65. What's next, mandated driver facing cameras? Making everyone use a CPAP machine every night, whether you have apnea or not, so they can monitor how much sleep you actually get? Think that's silly? We are talking about the government here. Nothing is silly to them. And they have to justify their existence some way. And we already know many of these companies will be early adopters of many of these proposals. "To get ahead of the game". To bad many of these companies can't adopt an attitude of passive resistance by loudly proclaiming NO, at every level of the rulemaking process.

Mercer 9hased these in over a two year period, the cut off the whole fleet was June 30. If you had read much this wouldn't have been a surprise

 

When the D.O.T. puts out the list of approved devices, you watch how fast the companies on the list raise their prices. It'll blow your mind. And 550 bucks, is still 500 more than paper logs. And its not a fear of the unknown, at least not in my case. I work with peoplenet elogs. Have been for nearly 5 years now. The company I'm with wanted them. I'm not privy to their reasons for wanting them. That's irrelevant, anyway. They chose them. They shouldn't be forced to chose them.

 

And neither should an owner operator who runs his own business.
