Most drivers go out of there way, to back to their good side.
Id rather back down a street a half mile if needed, but..there are times, you have no options, but to back, to your blind side.G13Tomcat Thanks this. -
I learned a lesson when I was a trainer...tell the spotters thank you for your help, I got this.I had a student back in from an alley into and under the building. bright and sunny outside pitch dark in the hole and it was very very tight.
I was on the ground there was a warehouse worker on the ground and we were trying to get this guy to slide it in the hole.finally I told the student to get out and look. once he saw where he was at he knew what to do slammed it right in there.
like the others said ignore the spotters and get out and look -
I would too send the spotter off. Just based on what happen to a fellow driver some years back. He was with his son and the son got out to help his dad back into the dock. The son was standing up in the warehouse and leaning out to one side where his body was in the trailer and his upper portion of his body was outside the trailer. It's hard to explain the position he was in but his lower body was in the warehouse and his upper body was looking at his dad from outside the warehouse and along the trailer. He told his dad to come back and he did. The dad ending up crushing his son between the warehouse and trailer. The son died right there. I know it took many years for this driver to get back in the truck but it's still sad. No Thank you, I'll do it myself even if I have to get out of the truck a hundred times.

Most safety departments would probably want you to have a spotter, but I think a case could be made for doing it yourself. The problem with using a third party is that, sometimes, important details can get lost in translation. The kind of details which causes trucks to superimpose themselves on each other.
Whenever our teams back up we like to use our cellphones and keep the idle chatter to a minimum. Wheel left, wheel right, forward, back, less, more, stop. Any more communication than that is just words getting in the way. -

For me it was, "if you're going to F up, F up in slow motion. You might be able to see the cluster____ coming before it actually happens, and pull out of it."Steel Dragon Thanks this.
