I was working for KLLM for 10 months(total trucking experience) as of last year. I ended up charged with a DWI in November. As of this month, the charge was dropped, and I was found not guilty.
So I figured I could go back to my company, no problems. Nope. They turned down my application, even though I was deemed not guilty.
So my questions are: Will I find this to become a regular occurence despite being found not guilty? What are good companies to apply for given my situation (I'm out of Amarillo, TX. 10 months experience. A felony from when i was in high school back in 2010 for a fight) that will give me decent miles to where I can make a respectable living, and may possibly give me a chance despite my imperfect lifestyle choices? I assumed that being found not guilty would allow me to jump right back in. Starting to realize that despite the verdict, when somebody sees the letters DWI, they tend to automatically assume guilty.
Companies currently applied for, and waiting to hear back from: WEL. Melton Truck Lines. Magnum ltd.
Crete turned me down due to "needing 2 more months of experience. and dont have training in your area".
Interesting dilemma...

Western Express and Carolina Cargo are always there to catch you when you fall...

If the charges were dropped or you were found not guilty, then push for your lawyer to work on expunging the arrest from your record. Also, read the applications carefully. If it asks for "convictions", you don't have to list it since you were not convicted. If it asks if you've been arrested, then without the incident being expunged from your record, you'd still have to list it...although I'd include the "found not guilty" somewhere nearby whether it asks for "final adjudication" or not.
Simply put, I hope it is a wake-up call for you. What you do in your off time in your personal vehicle affects your ability to work. If you're going out on the town, don't drive if you're going to drink.alghazi, Western flyer, RockinChair and 2 others Thank this. -
I would just email any prospective companies asking. You weren't convicted and have never received a DUI. Trucking companies are experts at deception and any that would use this situation against you would simply state they don't like the several month gap of unemployment.
But yea Western Express would hire you by 6pm today. DUI, you could even have killed someone in a manslaughter situation, they'll hire you. Would seriously NOT work for them though. Just trying to create some context.RERM Thanks this. -
Sometimes you have to ask yourself how I got in this situation. Sounds like you're figuring it out at some personal expense. Stay out of trouble and opportunities will open up. Good luck.

The only reason I tell companies about it upfront is because KLLM has it on record stating that I was charged with a DWI for the reason of termination. I figure being upfront about it may be my only option due to that showing up when companies look at my past driving work history. But it's definitely been a "learn from your mistakes" experience.

Unless they've changed it, kllm has a no dui ever policy on hiring.
So I'm not surprised
Something else I've found, if you apply to bigger companies when your record is iffy, and they reject you, they'll reject you forever.
Go back five years later with a perfect record, and they'll reject you again.
The original application never goes away and once rejected, rejected forever.jjoohhnn Thanks this. -
Did your lease or were you a company driver?
-
I was lease. Walk away contract.
-
Was curious if they ruin you under these circumstances. Guess that's one good thing about a walk away lease.
