Usually takes 5-6 minutes for any duty status change to 'take' in other words the elog will not show the new duty status for 4 minutes off duty waiting to pull up to the fuel island.
So say you are on Drive line then go Off Duty for 4 minutes waiting for the truck ahead to move, then you move up and change to On Duty, it now shows 4 minutes On Duty.
in that case, jump out while it is still Off Duty 4 minutes ticking and clean windshields walk around check lights etc. Soon as it shows 5-6 minutes, now change to On Duty/Fuel and get your fuel then pull ahead and go back Off Duty.
Any scrutinized questions from DOT-- yeah, umm I pulled into the fuel stop, had to pee so that is the 5-6 minutes Off Duty there, then I got fuel and then I went in and washed the diesel off my hands Off Duty again.bamalife123 Thanks this. -
I just had a DOT inspection yesterday, he just looked over my summary page on elogs.
I made sure to log on duty for the entire inspection, 30 minutes wasn't going to kill me. It did however make me skip the shower I had planned, until later that night.
I also make sure to log on duty while waiting for a tire repair. Why? Odds are, that's when a DOT cop will most likely roll up on me and "check things out" I'm not going to violate logs when they're likely to look.bamalife123 and KMac Thank this. -
Which is why you should run legal, always.
Messing with that log book and getting paid pennies per mile was always stressful and never worth it.
Local, hourly, overtime after 8.street beater, Friend and bamalife123 Thank this. -
Which system are you on? I am only familiar with Qualcomm/Omnitracks, the four years I have been on elogs that's all I have ever used, and it changes status instantly when I push the change button.bamalife123 Thanks this.

I use the keeptruckin phone app.
RedRover and bamalife123 Thank this. -
Qualcomm here also. Yes it changes status instantly but will revert to the old status if I try to change within 4-5 minutes.KMac Thanks this.

I have never noticed that. I have a lot of three tp 4 minute bathroom breaks during the week.
What I have noticed and don't like is if you let it go to the drive line by itself it backtracks to when the truck started moving. If I go off duty for one of the aforementioned breaks without shutting the truck off, and do not manually change to the drive line, it will add those minutes on the drive line.Chinatown and scottied67 Thank this. -
Yes, off duty or sleeper berth; either one.
-
What about those 3 minute pee breaks then drive, does it not revert back to those 3 minutes offduty as drive time as well?
Mine will do that too. 27 minute break, start rolling out and it shows 31 minutes off duty and clicks over to drive now showing 4 minutes drive time 27 minutes off duty and lost my 30 minute break.
