Dash cam footage mounted to windshield? Is that why camera is away from windshield and is tilted down to see dash cluster showing speed. Hmm.

Being focused on taping in said manner even if "foreahead cam" is distracted driving.

I thought we were talking about the stepdeck video my bad.
But to address your idea of distracted driving--

Follow my logic here. Hands free body cam mounted on the driver's forehead sees everything the driver sees. So you're saying that the driver looking down at the speedo is distracted driving?

I certainly won't defend what he did, and you're not wrong to be perturbed about it.

Here's the problem though. There are MILLIONS of others just like this stepdeck driver and that nitwit in your OP. You're fighting a losing battle. Really the best course IMHO for you or anyone else is to adopt a defensive posture and worry more about dodging and steering clear of the likes of the aforementioned nitwits. To do otherwise is an exercise in futility.

Follow the logic here you are distracted by trying to be a YouTube super star. You are obviously too worried about making your video super trucker. We are all glad you are a perfect driver. I guess I missed the lead up to the video. Did he start passing in a passing zone? How do we know you weren't speeding up slowing down so you could become a YouTube super trucker super star. So worried about everything but driving. Foreahead camera steering wheel holders. If you wanna play traffic cop I suggest you quit trucking.

When you rear end someone (I.e. prime) the lawyer will be sure to bring your videos and attempt at you tube super stardom up in court.

Lose his CDL, lol. Next up, a video showing someone changing lanes without signalling, a true menace!

I don't condone what the dude with the stepdeck did, I wouldn't do it myself. I see it all the time though and it's far from a mortal sin.

I think you weren't paying attention and were caught off guard when he showed up there. You couldn't find the gear and had to come to a complete stop. You should have seen it coming and either slowed to let him in or closed to the gap to discourage him. I'm all for leaving space and keeping rolling but at the end of the merge point if you're going to leave the space you should know someone is going to make a run for it.

What was going on behind you? The guy probably couldn't find anyone to let him in and took his best option. Again, not agreeing with what he did but it's far from being the grave sin you are trying to make it out to be.

The biggest risk was to him. You never know what debris will be on the shoulder.

Well, there was just a thread today about 3 trucks peeing on their tires at the truck stop who were arrested. Chances are good they will lose their CDL's too.

Forehead cams are the future. Just like dashcams heralded in a new era of catching bad behavior, forehead cams are the next step in the evolution of recording everything from the point of view perspective.

I get the feeling that you are afraid of that? Perhaps worried that driving creatively around the more safety conscious is going to be a thing of the past which I know, is sad like extinction of the dinosaurs, the end of the cowboy era, or the end of the space shuttle program.
