My boss keeps sending me on jobs that either nearly or just plain impossible. For example an obviously 9 hour job when I only have 6.5 hours left on my 70 clock. I'm having trouble not going off and quitting. Should I expect this s*** everywhere or is just a mega thing?

Drive your 6.5 hours. Then stop.
When the Boss bleats at you why are you stopped, tell him you are flat out of hours.
AND DOCUMENT IT. You will need that log book should boss fire you so the State can issue you unemployment.
There was a time in paper logs non Elog years we would run. Impossible is not impossible. But these days.. be professional. Stop at your 6.5 then dig in your heels and close your ears to the pending verbal abuse. You already told him you aint got the 9 hours. Stick to it. If you cannot do it, there will be another trucker along soon enough to take your load away from you.Ooops and Rusty Trawler Thank this. -

Do what is right & forget what he is telling you to do wrong. You have everything on your side. Document everything text him and say you know it takes 9 hours & l only have 6.5 hours. I can't complete this run. You want a paper trail if this get worse. If you can't make it work there move on.

Dispatch has to have the word you aint gonna make it due to out of hours, they have the time to call and make a new appointment time based on when you get hours back or find another company driver or team to race to get your trailer and run it in. It's all on them. That is why they are Dispatchers.
Don't be a patsy and run in out of your hours, something happens and the Law sees no hours left on the logs YOU are the one hoisted on your own petard. (Logs...) that would be a start. The days of three logbooks and creative hero work are all gone long ago. Don't be stupid.
Nothing is impossible in trucking. When things get hard, it's when you put on your trucker boots and stick to it. Whatever happens, including firing.Big Don Thanks this. -
Thanks guys. I just sent a screen shot of my mapping (Bing Maps) of the route with all stops. The drive time, based on normal vehicle speeds, shows 4.5 hours. Each stop (4) is about 30 minutes plus pre/post trip. Asked if someone else can do it or if it can go on Sat since I'm on recap right now. I'll have plenty of hours on Saturday.

Make sure to do all of your talking through the Qualcomm so it's logged in case they pull some #### and remember it's your cdl and your CSA that are on the line, not theirs. If they keep trying to make you run illegal, call safety and tell them what is going on. Safety will send some goons down to deal with the dispatcher and the dm.

And if saftey smiles at you, pats on the head like you would a puppy... then it's time to find another outfit.
You remember that all drivers have a file folder with a name on it. Yours. In that folder goes the dirty, nasty, bad negative happenings with you. If you dig in and yell back at the dispatcher trying to force you out of hours you can bet today will go into that file folder for use against you in the future.
It's literally your ###. Stay where you are. Don't be climbing into that cab and rolling like a beaten and abused defeated person. You have no idea of how much laws and resources stand with you as a driver. Even if you don't have a job later today.RedRover Thanks this. -
Look vinny a bit of serious advice.
Do not ever use regular drive times on anything when documenting this, use 47 mph because that is the actual drive time as used by many companies like fedex and land star.
