Or is there a difference. I rubbed the side of a trailer against a pole making a turn. Cosmetic damage to the trailer. None to the pole. This is my only mishap in the 12 months I've been at this. No accident report or anything, but my company requires that I sign a statement acknowledging my mistake. If/when I apply to another company in the future ... 1) what do I call this, incident or accident? 2) is this sort of thing reported on DAC?
Any input on If/how it should be reported to prospective employers would be greatly appreciated.
Accident or incident?

Incident.
If you broke the pole it's a accident.
Incidents cost you and your company money. But accidents? whoo now...
Either way... did you get reported rubbing that pole? Usually there are a ... mark or two on the trailer from something erm well... things ya know but nothing broken, no harm no foul. Just add a few more on that side of the trailer but nothing too bad. Like a old FFE trailer with beer in Denver vs a median strip. Tore the entire wall out of one side of that trailer. (THAT is a accident.)free spirited1, BUMBACLADWAR, Rusty Trawler and 2 others Thank this. -
Incidents go against safety bonuses and the like
Accidents involve police reports and other vehiclesLongarm, plankton and Dave_in_AZ Thank this. -
Did anyone else see it happen? If not, it was like that when you picked it up. Log it in your post trip report lol

This is an accident.

Thanks all for your response! ...So it was an incident.
If an application asks you to list any "accidents"... Should this incident be listed?
Is this incident likely to show up on a DAC report? -
Heh.
That question is answered with a position I take when faced with things that happen or did not happen.
If the interviewer asking you questions fail to ask about such a such something that did not happen it literally did not happen. (*Yes it #### well did but it did not happen, understand?) You don't volunteer anything.free spirited1, Mike2633 and plankton Thank this. -
Get a few of your buddies together one night and after several shots of tequila pay that pole you hit a visit. Rough him up a bit
and tell him to keep his mouth SHUT if he knows what's good for him. No future employers will ever find out

if you hit something that you weren't supposed to hit it's an accident...by the way it's preventable...all these nice truckers on here just trying to make you feel better
-
If you reported cosmetic damage to a trailer you may be the first in the history of Trucking.
I'm surprised the person you reported it to didn't faint.Friday, TequilaSunrise, JC1971 and 3 others Thank this.
