While many people are quick to jab at the wel driver for being a rookie and/or incompetent person, please remember that plenty of experienced drivers do this very same thing. It's just not necessarily another truck that they hit.

The company I work for only hires experienced drivers, and still every other trailer I hook to has some sort of side damage (scrapes, dents, scuffs, etc.) from drivers scraping against a pole or a building or whatever.

It could be that the wel driver was just tired or stressed and got a little careless when pulling out. It happens. And hey at least she stopped and owned up to it, and even called in the wrecker to prevent further damage. I mean she still messed up, but maybe we ought to cut her a little slack. Just my opinion.

That's what the moron Decker driver did to mine, he hooked my hood then booked and did $15,000 more in damage than if he had just sat still.

    No sir, I disagree.

Forgetting that you're pulling a trailer is inexcusable. ESPECIALLY when making a left turn. No slack cutting today.

1477057182716.jpg You are right ST ,her tandems were almost all the way to the rear but still, look how much room she had. There is no designated parking spot on the left and the curb behind it is fairly high.

    TripleSix Thanks this.

I wouldn't call her braindead but I would bet it is her either first or second week driving. We all make mistakes, the point is to learn from them.Yeah ok after giving it a thought, why the hell was she driving on the left?Inexcusable unless there was a truck going opposite direction.I didn't see it I only heard the noise when I was in the sleeper.

If you can't remember that you have a trailer, you're Braindead. Even with the wheels all the way to the rear. Did she jump that curb?

Or are you guys wanting to cut some slack because it's a woman?

I think about that exact sentence every time I park. Or at least " I think I'm safe here." All you can do is try your best to find a good spot, and hope somebody doesn't get you while your sleeping. I never park on the end, even where your in the legal spot, just because of scenarios like the one you just documented. There you got a new driver, plenty of room, even goes up over the curb, CRUNCH.

I was parked one night in Nebraska. Sleeping soundly when my truck shook. thought it was an earthquake. Got out of the sleeper to see a van trailer inches from breaking into my sleeper. He took out my right side mirror before he stopped. Grabbed a forward gear and took off running.

He was literally about 3 inches from crunching sleeper. Plenty of dirt room. And some lighting. Plenty of space between me and truck to the right. All he had to do was back straight in. But somehow. He was angled a little towards me.
