H.O.S./ log question

My home terminal is in Indianapolis which is Eastern time zone, I log on Central time since the main terminal is in Nebraska.

 

I don't see the problem.

IT IS where you are told it has to be.

I've got a truck with a driver who has a terminal in KC, where he is out of and the company is in California AND in Florida. They tell him west coast time for logs, east coast time for pickup and delivery times.

IT IS really screwed up but he handles it without an issue.

I asked them why, they said the safety stuff goes to California the dispatch is out of Florida.

I asked for a while and get the same answer, it is where the company wants it to be.

 

The Feds don't get all that bent out of shape over this one. Also almost every company with more then 100 or so tractors aggregate all the data , logs (don't matter if paper or elog) , QUAILCOMM GPS data, Fuel records and send to another company ( I have since forgot this companies name) and this company will actually provide this data as a timeline back to your carrier. If your logs are out of sync with this it will get flagged when safety does an audit. For this system to work every driver has to be on the same time and in almost 100% of the time that time is where the home office is. I can't tell you how many times I have sit with a safety person and have that person log into this database and look for something out of sync. Keeping these items in sync is not as easy as one may thing either.

 

Goi,g to do is ask your log or safety dept.I've always logged my home time zone which is central.

 

Most carriers will tell you what time zone to log in during orientation. I have never run elogs but I wonder if you can select the time zone.

 

You can set your time zone for messages and such in Qualcomm, but the logging screens will still show your home terminal time zone. I have not seen an option for this in peoplenet yet.

 

The reason for the FMCSA rule to use the home terminal time zone, is so that people don't try to use local time as they cross the country.
They need you to stay on a specific reference point, so your logs are continuous.

They don't really care what time reference you use, as long as it is explainable.

So if you are o/o, use your home base. If you are company, ask them! Lol
