Just remembered - the Cascadias with the battery kill switch on the floor.
Several had starter issues where the drivers would park them at the motel, brakes set and in 1st gear - the statrter would engage itself during the night, inching the truck out into the middle of the lot against the gearbox and brakes until frying the starter, starting a fire, and burning them to a crisp.
Weirdest truck problem you ever had.

Yeah, bout ten years ago
But it still gives me chills to remember it.
Another time I was in ny following a guy hauling a roll off dumpster
Looked fine, but I somehow suddenly knew it was wasn't
I moved over
Off it came, skidding past me.
Weird.OLDSKOOLERnWV, x1Heavy and blairandgretchen Thank this. -
Never liked the idea of hauling anything with the potential to 'unload' itself.Rusty Trawler Thanks this.

05 century in jersey at the t/a very humid next thing I know the truck started by itself could not shut it off by the key. Talk about weird had to put it in gear to kill it. Found out a relay by driver seat had water on it. Fix the water leak and replaced the relay, no more ghost to start the truck

One of our drivers is driving through town and some guy in a car
pulls up next to him, waving his arms......driver cranks down his
window......car driver says "your trucks on fire".....so driver pulls
over and sure enough, the right side fender on the hood is actually
burning......the headlight assembly shorted out and started the
fiberglass hood on fire.Ruthless, Lepton1 and blairandgretchen Thank this. -
Yea Rusty raised something I rather not be raised.
There is a little highway down a valley south of Frederick Maryland not far from the Iron Ore crossing for WVa below Harpers Ferry. Anyhow a friend was driving and all was well, no stress anywhere.
We passed a particular curve and I felt like someone was walking on my grave for lack of a better description on how badly I felt on that curve. Thought it over a while and figured I will take my semi or car on another road or 15 and stay on it until whatever resolves on this little curve.
Anyhow the holidays came along and Friend was asking if I wanted to go along to grab dinner at the family home and I had that same graves problem. I did not tell him that. I declined.
Hours later he showed up after wrapping his vehicle around the pole on the inside of that curve. The pole had made it just about across the passenger seat where I usually sat. Very vicious and violent damage, enough to chop the rib cage and remove the spine column.
I always considered that my second birthday. And in trucking there were other situations where graves walking again I would park that thing and get out of the semi without any hesitation expecting trouble. As it would turn out there was trouble. Not far.
There is your spooky. One of the few things that kept me safe over the years. Still does.Lepton1, Snailexpress, Rusty Trawler and 1 other person Thank this. -
I had a 2stoke run in reverse once, the exhaust was blowing out the air cleaner.
Lepton1 Thanks this. -
I got sent out one time to assist a driver who was having clutch issues. Pedal felt normal but clutch wasn't disengaging. Put it in the shop and dropped the transmission. Intermediate plate cracked in 4 spots and both clutch discs were warped to the point that if you were to lay them flat on a bench, they were about 2-3" offset. No idea how the guy managed that one.
Lepton1 Thanks this. -
Did he even have low range?
