We make about 1300 per week each which is a lot better than anybody working for a mega and they treat us pretty well. I just know the real money and trucking is being an owner operator and I see what some of these loads pay and I've talked with some Landstar bcos hauling the same stuff we do driving Super Deluxe extended sleepers so the money is definitely there.
When to take the plunge....

The 08-09 financial meltdown made me realize that people with expensive houses/cars/toys were not wealthy.
Their lives were simply on loan from a bank.Davo81, Lepton1, whoopNride and 2 others Thank this. -
@Midnightrider909
What age are you and the wife?
Any plans for kids? -
The old pre emmisions engines a million miles was very common. It was practically a given. Heck i tore mine down at a million and the crosshatches was still in the liners. The newer ones with dpf scr egr...not so much. I wouldn't be comfortable over 36 months. But I'm also the guy that refused a lower payment 30 year mortgage and got a 15 then paid it off in under 5. I don't like debt.
I'm not saying my way is right, just saying is right for me. And when ya ask for opinions you get us crack pots willing to give ours. -
I'm 46 and she's 45. She has a 26 year old and I have two boys ages 10 + 12. We're not going to have any more kids.daf105paccar Thanks this.

I don't like debt any more than you do. I have a house that needs to get refinanced too to get my ex-wife's name off the deed.. It's a complicated financial situation. I have $200,000 in retirement money but I don't want to touch it because of the penalties. We can keep doing what we're doing and save about $1,000 a week or we can go owner operator and possibly Bank double that. I'm not getting any younger and I don't want to be on the road for ever. If it was just me I probably wouldn't go O/O at least for another three or four years but I figured with my wife driving and being able to take team loads it is a good deal for us and less risk than if I was solo.

With the operation you are running (high miles go anywhere including Cali) buying used is not the best option.
I would shop around with different dealers.
You have enough for a big downpayment and still have enough leftover for running costs and a emergency fund.
Whën you shop around do keep in mind resale value.Midnightrider909 Thanks this. -
Save 1000 a week driving for the company . safe bet and you get more experience while doing it as well . remember when going to landstar you inky get 65% of the load pay.
Midnightrider909 Thanks this. -
The only real assets are land, gold, guns, and food. And only if you can keep them when the s*** hits the fan.Davo81 Thanks this.
