If you do one poorly, that's worse. If you do one very well, that's better
BigHossVolvo, akfisher, Sublime and 14 others Thank this. -
Either is fine, as long as you do it well like double d said. Personally i float. Clutch is for 1st n reverse. (Actually whatever forward gear i choose, but that sounds better)
JReding, pigeon river trucking, Dumdriver and 1 other person Thank this. -
Floating is a lot better on my left leg I would think lol. Idk never double clutched.
pattyj, Dumdriver and BUMBACLADWAR Thank this. -
If you have calf muscles like a Marathon Runner then by all means double clutch.I dont,I float.Nobody, standing on the sidewalk can tell the difference.Blackshack46, Wargames and Dumdriver Thank this.

I do both, depending on the situation. And yes, my left knee hurts....
Texas_hwy_287, Bean Jr., QuietStorm and 2 others Thank this. -
Depends how tight the tranny is. I've had some newer trucks that I doubled all the time, cause the gear box was so tight.
I don't believe in tearing stuff up.
Doubling only requires a nudge. I think its better for the over all life of the truck.
I do float a lot.
Now I did 3 years in a manual Pete / 11 yard mixer where I held that clutch, and boy howdy that was a clutch, in for hours at a time, creeping along pouring concrete.JReding, Lepton1, sealevel and 1 other person Thank this. -
Or you can lightly clutch out and float in. Never understood what the second clutch tap was for.
Texas_hwy_287, Bean Jr., Lepton1 and 2 others Thank this. -
Big truck trannys are not synchronized, there is no "help" to ensure proper gear meshing...KillingTime Thanks this.

I tend to float on the road and double clutch when negotiating the yard at a shipper.
