If you do one poorly, that's worse. If you do one very well, that's better

Either is fine, as long as you do it well like double d said. Personally i float. Clutch is for 1st n reverse. (Actually whatever forward gear i choose, but that sounds better)

I do both, depending on the situation. And yes, my left knee hurts....

Depends how tight the tranny is. I've had some newer trucks that I doubled all the time, cause the gear box was so tight.
I don't believe in tearing stuff up.
Doubling only requires a nudge. I think its better for the over all life of the truck.
    I do float a lot.
Now I did 3 years in a manual Pete / 11 yard mixer where I held that clutch, and boy howdy that was a clutch, in for hours at a time, creeping along pouring concrete.

Or you can lightly clutch out and float in. Never understood what the second clutch tap was for.

Big truck trannys are not synchronized, there is no "help" to ensure proper gear meshing...

I tend to float on the road and double clutch when negotiating the yard at a shipper.
