I have T660 and the owner's manual says to do those things.
@TigerShark did that message come up after idling all night? Or after driving for a time? Also when you idle, do you idle at 600 rpm or 900 rpm? Mine a passive regen engages at 50 mph or above. So if I had to roll I would just go if I could maintain 50mph.
Parked Regen T660?

I'll add a little personal experience to this.
I have a 2015 Cascadia that we got in June of 2014, so I have had this truck roughly 2 1/2 years & has 161,000 miles. My job is a bit different from typical trucking, in that I am mostly a local driver with some regional within a 300 mile radius.
A typical run for me will be to leave Monroe, La & run 300 miles west to Arlington, TX, spend the night. Get up, scale & unload. I'll do this about once per week. Otherwise I am usually home every night. Because I am not out a lot over night, our best option is no GenPak (etc), but just to idle over night when out.
Therefore, when I am out over night, most of the time I have to do a manual regen the next morning. In the period of 2 1/2 years, it usually takes about 10 minutes.... 15 minutes max... to regen & I am good to go.
I do this about 2 or 3 times a month. If the situation is right, I'll do a manual regen 4 times a month but not normally. Again, 2 or 3 times a month is normal.
About a month ago we had a normal PM done at 150,000 miles.
The first time I needed to regen after the PM, it took about 10 minutes & finished. I drove about 5 minutes to scale & dock. About 30 minutes later, it needed another regen. Its never done that before. So, I started it & it ran for about 30 minutes. That in itself was extremely unusual. It finally finished.
I drove about 45 minutes to my next stop, dropped/hooked & headed toward home. I drove about an hour, stopped for lunch for 30 minutes. When I got back, it needed another regen. This is crazy!
I started the regen & it run about 45 minutes & didn't finish so I decided to see if it would finish as a passive regen. I drove about 4 hours back home, & it had not finished a regen. After dropping the trailer, I started a manual regen & it finished in about 45 minutes.
We took it back to Ryder for them to check out. When I picked it up, they said that it should take about 45 minutes to do a normal, full regen. However, in 2 1/2 years & 160,000 miles, doing a regen 2 or 3 times a month on average, its never taken over 15 minutes max... normally 10 - 12 minutes.
They said in my case, they had to remove an injector & do something, then replace it because, apparently (& I didn't know this) in addition to the DEF, the regen process, squirts a little diesel into the process to assist in the heating process. In my case, when they did the PM, they didn't get something right when they did whatever they do to the injectors at 150,000 mile PM, therefore the regen process wasnt getting enough diesel to heat up the system to burn out the (soot) & finish the regen process.
Or something like that.....
Hopefully this may help you.scottied67 Thanks this. -
It don't matter if your empty or loaded. I've always had to do a regen after idling for 10.
The 09 pete with isx. Was usually only a problem in the winter time. More so with Flying J fuel. And would take 45 minutes.
the 12 and 16 FL with detroits. Would kick on the light after 9 hours and shut down on the 10 hour mark if not done. First time would take 10 minutes. If still idling, the light would come on at 5 hours and take 60 minutes. I never got to the 3rd round.
If the process isn't completed. You may or may not get by with carrying on your day. I've had times where the light would eventually go out. Times where the light would stay on. And you had to start the timer all over again. And i've had a couple of times where the truck was empty and had just enough power to get me to my reload. Where i could start the process over again while loading.
Basically the only time i've had to regen is after extended idling. -
Holy cow this thread took off. OK here's what happened.
My truck was at the yard we had SUB zero temps so they idled every trick @1100 mine idled for about 2 days while I was home..... They didn't idle the trucks at a high enough rpm so they all got clogged dpf our mechanics are idiots they are all "self trained experts*.
My truck threw fix engine light stop engine light and parked Regen required on info display..... After 2.5 hours my truck idled down all the codes went off and I went on my way.....
Now..... For some reason I have dropped mpg by about one.... Usually unloaded I can get 7.5-9 depends on factors..... Now unloaded I got about 6 and loaded I am getting 4......... I'm guessing another Regen to really clean system out?Cat sdp Thanks this. -
Reset your mileage it down because of all the fuel you used doing the regen
-
Already reset mileage....that was going 65 on flat Kansas roads @ 4.6 mpg loaded with 40k....usually at 46k I can average 5.7...5.2 with strong winds.
