Auto industry carved out certain exemptions, like individually packaged bottles of oils, batteries, etc -- but only when the shipment contains nothing else.
sonnyp, Toomanybikes, JC1971 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Even if it's not in consumer packaging, motor oil is not considered hazmat. Check out a 55 gallon drum sometime. It isn't flammable, corrosive, explosive, etc.Toomanybikes, WildTiger1990 and Canned Spam Thank this.

It should be hazmat. What if that 55to gal drum leaks ie truck stop, who you gonna call to clean it up? Hazmat crew
-
All they will do is dump oil dry on it then sweep it up
Longarm Thanks this. -
How do you get extra qualifications like HAZMAT?

Application process involving a background check, finger printing, then after all that you go to the SOS/DMV and take the test to get it added to your CDL.southwest_bs Thanks this.

Written test is easy; about 30 questions. Memorize the questions and answers. Scroll to the top of this page and click on "CDL Practice Tests" and also Google : Free CDL Practice Tests CaliforniaLepton1 and southwest_bs Thank this.

I just did this. It's easy.
Read the manual, take some practice tests here and elsewhere on line.
Go to the DMV and take the test, pay the test fee.
You will be given instructions on how to get your prints done. You set an appointment and they check your ID, birth cert, passport (whatever you have from the ID list), take your prints, a picture and your fingerprint fee.
Wait for the endorsement to be approved.southwest_bs Thanks this. -
Oil contaminated dirt goes to a land fill on a non haz waste manifest, it is not a haz mat by definition of toxicity, flammability, corrositivity, explosivity and the TCLP test used to determine if something is hazardous.
Now some of the components used in the chemical stew called motor oil were in larger quantities it would be classified hazardous. The lobby bucks were spent on keeping USED motor oil off the hazardous list...
