The Mack in my avatar picture had a magic attraction to birds.
I was crawling along at about 25 mph trying to get up a hill and I caught what looked like a gray baseball out of the corner of my eye. Smacked right into the passenger side windshield leaving bird crap but no damage.
A couple of days later going about 20 mph another bird went for the same window, I heard it but didn't see it until it fell down out of the shade onto my hood as I stopped for a stop sign.
Why birds were flying into my slow moving truck is beyond me.
Luck strikes again & again & ...

A driver I know has had his windshield replaced more times then his truck has been PM. He is on his 4th for this year alone. I myself am on my second. I have heard something about them using a lighter glass, but I'm not sure if that's the case.

I owned a 1996 Lada (Russian made car). Drove it for 7 years. I swear the windshield in that car was bullet proof. It got hit really hard a number of times and it absolutely never cracked at all.
Someone told me they use a thicker plastic laminate between the two layers of safety glass.
