Be sure to add a link to your TTR account when applying for your next job, companies will surely be impressed with you.

You work for swift. They don't care if you sit there til next Tuesday as long as they save money. They have to save money because their safety ratings and customer service mean they have to beg customers for freight through offering them rock bottom rates. I've been down this road myself. I'd skip a fuel stop if I knew I could make the next scheduled stop because it saved time and avoided a crowded truck stop. But dispatch hated it every time I did it. "They have those stops planned for a reason!", I was always told by the sheep sitting at a desk. Skipping fuel stops shows you aren't with the program. Just another reason why I left the Megan's and I'm not looking back.
DrFlush, Boattlebot, Xzay and 1 other person Thank this. -
It could be any number of reasons they got upset, none of them you should make your concern. They could have had the cheapest fuel there. They could have been close to getting a greater fuel rebate with your purchase. What is most likely, some lazy dispatcher wants to take his daly issues out on driver. Happens all the time. Some others feel the need to school a driver in that Swift is the boss and you only #### when Swift says so.
You did the right thing; when you cannot get the truck off the street for a fuel line, you are a safety hazard. Plan and simple. You got to reply to dispatch like that; " That fuel stop was a safety issue. " Always screw them, their issues in that office should never take precedence over your more important safety and time issues out on the road.
They cannot give you a service failure, preventable, or write up for missed fuel, so don't worry about it. You did the right thing and let them know just that. They are not paying you for fuel stops anyway. Screw that #####y dispatcher and take care of business.Pumpkin Oval Head and Xzay Thank this. -
you have a list of fuel stops to use, right ? So skip stop 2 and then fuel at stop 3 (assuming you can make it).

At Swift they send a Fuel Solution along with the dispatch on the qulcomm. it lists truckstops along the route the driver is supposed to stop at and get x amount of gallons. \
My advice is to use their fuel stops, however only put in so many gallons to get you through the day and a little bit of tomorrow. For instance, many times they would say get 110 gallons, or fill up, I would only get 65 - 85 gallons and move on to the next stop. If I can't make it I send a message, "critical low on fuel need re-opt" and they always did. This keeps your cards flush with showers too.Last edited: Jan 6, 2017

Skipping fuel stops?
Maybe because I just got 300 gallons 50 mile ago and don't plan to get anymore for a thousand miles or a half tank in a few days whichever is first.
There is no such thing as skipping fuel stops when you have fuel to burn. It's actually NICE to just roll on instead of hitting every single fuel stop in this state, the next state and the state after that sheesh. What a waste of time.
We filled at half tanks in winter 1/3 in summer. During 9-11 we filled twice a day regardless of tank remaining because it was a time of war for a while that month. Otherwise roll on.
Once in a great while we drive very carefully to get 1500 to 2000 miles out of a set of fuel tanks filled to the brim with the possibility of using the reefer fuel as well if necessary when a state or two has too many company trucks filling in a given month and we are told to fill some other state.
As a team we just burnt the 300 gallons every 24 to 30 hours and filled it. 340 gallons capacity, 320ish was useable.
Never allow a company to issue you 150 gallons or less in a single tank only for OTR you will find yourself filling three times a day or running out. It's ridiculous. ATS of St Cloud Mn Did that to me once, and I quit because of that among other reasons. No one will be allowed to assign such a thirsty truck to me ever again. -
"It was unsafe to stop there due to too many trucks. There was a line out on the street."
Let me guess, it was the Pilot in Minooka, IL? Went once flat refused to go again. Place is a mad house.
