I drive regional on the west coast. Lately I have been chaining up often and my upper back is hurting like a mofo and feels like it's on fire.

Is this permanent back damage or can it be reversed? Or what precautions can I take before doing slight heavy lifting. Don't want to end up like some of those guys walking with canes.

I'm in my 20s by the way. Think I'm too young to be feeling this. But I have a history of negligence with my body and used to lift weights alot and other sports.

I was also planning on lifting weights again and being more active.LatelI'vey ive been a couch potato.

I could definitely use more strength and conditioning when it comes to these types of situations.

Use a back support belt. It really helped me when doing food service. It was so good I wore it most of the time. Walmart sells them and also Google for other locations.

Start a brisk walking routing; that's all you need. Jogging is the worst excercise because it puts wear and tear on all the body joints.

You have an inflammation problem. Ibuprofin, Ice, rest. The rest is the most important. I use a Chinese lineament called "Dit Dat Jow". Sometimes it works wonders. You can get it from an herbalist or from some martial arts supply stores. The oil-based Jow works the best.

    Bah! You bunch of quacks!

Get your GP to write you a script for a couple of sessions at a Physical Therapist. Tell them what's going on - and they'll give you a bunch of simple stretches and exercises that'll strengthen the weak muscles.

That - and a GOOD Chiropracter - usually an independent fairly fresh out of med school (yes, they have to do 7 years hard time).

Weak scapula muscles usually at the root of a lot of it.
