I think he's talking about the overall picture of that 35 cpm = $22 an hr
Out of that $22 an hr ( straight time)
.... Let's not forget
.. Down time at the shipper
... Flow of traffic
... Weather conditions
.... Fuel stops
.... And any time the wheels are not turning
.... How many miles today?
Now how does that 35 cpm look after we get the real picture
.... Maybe $17 an hr of straight time and the driver is on the job 24/7
"No thanks "rossi46, Crusader66, p608 and 2 others Thank this. -
Yes, there are many variables to consider which potential cut into your rate.
And yes, if you took your pay check and divided it by 168 (hrs in a week), living in a truck is not really worth it. But I'm the type that you could over pay me for this job... And it still wouldn't be worth it. And when I'm done w. OTR, isn't any way I'm doing it again. There's a life to live beyond this rig.Crusader66, 207nomad and ladr Thank this. -
The Real problem is...if Someone wont run for 35cpm,theres Someone else willing to do it! Look at Swift before their big pay raise. What was it 25 or 26cpm.Lol

Quote: ladr:>> Why? I think the payscale across the board should be higher.
Free markets, it pays what the new drivers will accept. There is no end to the number of new recruits needing work, if there was a shortage the rates would go up. You can't arbitrarily raise rates across the board. Look what happened on the West coast with the raising of minimum wage, 1000s less jobs because companies can't afford to pay. All sounds great on paper but in the real world it never works.
