Is millis transfer still a good company too work for

Had a conversation with payroll the other day. GA regional milage bonus doesn't start until 2750 on straight pay. I called because the milage bonus was not on my paycheck. Also found out vacation pay is not grandfathered in. So all wrapped up, if you are on straight pay you didn't get a raise even though the base pay went up. They are basically forcing you to switch to per diem, which you can't do until your anniversary.

They also didn't have a valid answer for why ga regional is paid less than otr even though every other regional fleet is paid more than otr. They tried to tell me something about averaging out the pay so everyone gets at least a .01 raise but paying the guys who run less miles less money and paying the guys who run more miles more money just makes the pay gap even larger. Why would anyone even switch to regional with pay like this?

They also told me the milage bonus for ga regional per diem was still .03 at 2000 miles and so on just like it used to be, but that didn't sound right. I really don't think they even know what they should be paying us anymore.

 

What I posted was from an email I got from Millis when I asked for the pay info so who knows. My pay. OTR straight, matched what pay scale I was emailed and posted here.

I received a .06 pay raise, which if I drive 100,000 per year will be a $6,000 per year pay raise. My vacation pay for 1 week on straight pay was only $500-750 so I'll trade that for $6,000.. Set aside .01 of that raise in a vacation fund and you'll have $1,000 and pocket $5 000 as the raise.

They have always tried to offer incentives to take per diem which tells me it is way better for the company than for me otherwise why would I need any incentives to do it? There was even a comparison chart with the pay scale email trying to show me how much greater per diem would be for me. I just laughed to myself.

 

I get that. I was just offering my info on regional. Info keeps changing from person to person.

OTR did get a decent raise but you need to remember to consider that you're not getting milage bonus anymore either. Their justification for only giving regional a .04 raise is because we don't run as many miles so we don't normally hit those higher milage bonuses anyway.

My base pay went up .04
Take away that I no longer get the .03 milage bonus at 2000 miles and now I have a .01 raise
Take away my paid vacation and use my .01 raise to cover it and now I didn't get a pay raise at all.
Oh and the milage bonus at 2500 miles is now 2750 and getting that extra penny is even harder now.

This is all straight pay.

I personally don't care about the mileage bonus being gone because now I get more CPM than the highest bonus amount ever was for ALL miles ALL of the time. . Not just if I hit the different thresholds. Same with you until you exceed whatever old mileage threshold would have gotten you past .04 per mile bonus.

 

I'm not a Millis employee yet, but headed to their school in Texas in February. I've read a lot about the whole camera debate (not just Millis cameras). I do not know the technical facts about how they operate. However, logic tells me that it makes no sense, nor would it be beneficial for a company to pay people to sit and monitor/watch all their drivers full time. Who has time for that? The only reason I would think they might (and I stress, MIGHT) do that is if a particular driver has given them reason to want to monitor their driving habits. I'm not trying to stir the pot, but it just doesn't make sense that anyone would waste time/money doing that. Just my 2 cents.

 

Are they still putting only twin 100 gallon fuel tanks on OTR trucks?

That is one thing that would kinda bug me.

 

With Millis it's all about getting the truck as light as possible because of all the heavy heavy beer loads they haul. Hell even with just the 2 100 gal tanks everytime into Budweiser can be an adventure on being legal.

 

When I was there having a camera in the truck was no big deal, had one for almost 2 years can count on 1 hand minus the thumb anything was ever said about speeding, hard braking, etc, I will say during the safety meeting they would show clips of drivers doing some real stupid crap as long as you're doing your job IMO nothing to worry about.

 

Just saw your comment here and was wondering if you can let me know what the hotel information was that was confirmed to you, I looked back but can't find that information in this thread. I am STRONGLY considering doing the school at Cartersville and am wanting to get as much information upfront as I can so I'm well prepared. Thank you in advance for any help you can give me!
