I am working on a business plan and preparing a cost list. I know the actual numbers of revenue will determine the actual percentages of costs, but I need to make the predictions anyway. Any input is greatly appreciated.
    Fuel
    Depreciation
    Maintenance
    Tires
    Food
    Payroll
    Insurance
    Loading Unloading
    Phone Service
    Lodging
    Tolls
    Permits
    Prepass maybe?
    Suggestions?

I don't claim food or lodging because the per diem deduction more than covers that. Right now I think everything else is running around 60 cents. That goes up and down depending on how hard I run. Having a large maintenance fund or building one up asap can't be overemphasized. But I will say for me, that no matter how tough it gets, it's infinitely better than being a company driver. I realize it's not for everyone but id quit driving if I didn't have my own truck

Me too, Floyd, well said. I think it's kind of like owning or renting a home, it's more about lifestyle than the money. My Freightliner Columbia has done good work for me. It's getting old now, truth to tell both of us are getting that way, and I make quite a bit more money for my efforts than any company driver I've heard of. That's nice, but I'd quit driving before going back to a company truck, company rules, company BS. Bad enough the way it is.

I won't be renting again either.

For us, I'd say 1.00. The way I look at it, if I pick up a load for 1.00 per mile, we lost and no money is made. Everything after 1/mile is profit.

That is where i am setting my business plan at. Hoping to come in under 1.00, but 1.00 will work for my business plan. Saving saving saving.
