Fact is any driver worth their salt will spend money relocating their equipment rather than spend money hauling someone's freight.

Nah one pick maybe 2 drops. God bless the cheap freight haulers but like it's been said on here before I'll hang out at the chrome shop before I'd turn a single wheel for a buck and a quarter outta anywhere. Just can't figure out that mindset them fellers have.

It's propaganda to explain how the world works?

Do you guys think that you get all that money going into FL because it's a great place to find your truck? No it pays like that because it's a one way trip for most of the people making it. Just like MA and CO.

I mean seriously some of you in this thread are pitching sugar candy mountain and claiming I'm a lying scumbag broker for acknowledging that you need to get paid to go into Florida because coming back will suck. I didn't know this was controversial lol. I mean look you can take my 2.50 a mile and come back out empty if you want... But if the alternative is 0 dollars 700 dollars isn't the worst deal.

    EDIT: Here's a math problem:

Jerry is a trucker who got paid fair money to go to Miami, FL from Memphis, TN. This means he got paid 2700+ dollars to come down. On getting in empty in Miami he has two options that get him home to Memphis quickly... A load picking up Okeechobee that pays 1000 dollars (1 dollar a mile empty+loaded) or a load picking up in Atlanta that pays 700 dollars (Just under 2 bucks a mile). He can also deadhead home. Both load options exist in a magical world where they are equal in every way but pickup and drop location.

Which load results in Jerry making more money?

Maybe you aren't as dumb as previously thought.
What happens when enough of us tell you we aren't moving your problem 700 for 700 load?

It's not a problem load. If that broker raises the price to 800 he'll get blown up. I LOVE FL outbound freight in the off season. Getting it covered takes like 1-2 phone calls at a buck a mile.

EDIT: I said in my first post in the thread that he's a little low. But he's a hundred bucks low not 50% low. BIG difference. I'd pay 800 and have it covered on the third call with a carrier whose MC starts with a 6 and has <50 trucks.

2.50 into fl as you quoted is not good money.

Yes it's propaganda to keep spreading this bs it's not as you say how the world works Especially for those that know when negotiating a rate into areas like this you need to get your outbound dh$ in that inbound rate and leave that cheap $#!+ sitting where it belongs. ON THE DOCK.
And don't even start with that 2.50 in .90 Or 1.00 is averaging that's nothing more than getting paid one way and paying to haul that cheap garbage out.

Look I get that this is how you want the world to work, but that's not how supply and demand work.

Rural areas generally create freight and cities generally consume it. For 2 months of the year FL has a lot more freight coming out than going in and those months are May and June. The other 10 months of the year there are probably 2 inbound shipments for every outbound shipment. With that kind of an imbalance half the trucks HAVE to leave the state empty.

You can be one of those trucks that leaves the state empty... But the people who are hauling that cheap freight out aren't stupid. They are just figuring out how to make as much money as they can. Believe me when I say that the big carriers have zero problem hauling FL outbound for .75 a mile off season. I don't use them, but plenty do.

This isn't even an area where truckers are being treated unfairly. You get paid going in. You just want to have your cake and eat it too.

You are not wrong but you have a different perspective. The ones arguing against you are coming from a place of principle and a small hope that if enough drivers say no then rates will rise. Now, they know that the rates are probably a lost cause but the principle is there. It just feels like crap to be used.

You are coming from the point of view of maximizing profits, nothing wrong there. But as a driver, my heart and vote is with those against you because I have that same passion. In short, us drivers are jaded and you are not. Neither side is wrong, we just have different motivations.
