No, I'm not thinking of buying a 20 axle. Or hauling nuclear reactors.
And I promise I won't get all posterior hurt if you give me honest answers.
I'm going to need to re-invest some money with a 1031 real estate exchange to avoid capital gains, so-
This might be more for guys own trucks & do maintenance themselves (but maybe not?)-
Lets say there was a place, not big-city, along a route you run often that had parking for say 5-10 trucks (overnight or reset), a little lounge, shower, BBQ, and a building you could pull a truck & trailer in with tools, jacks, welders, steam cleaner, blah, blah, to use- PM's, oil changes, filters, grease......and a grocery store next door. Membership only (not stupid $), reserve your space.
Napkin sketch, but you get the idea?
The floor is open for comments
I need a little input

Forget the building. Buy you a 20 axle AND haul Nuclear Reactors.

I don't own my truck but I do take care of a lot of the maintenance on it because I don't trust some of the guys in our shop to do it right. If places like you described existed I would probably use them. I foresee the biggest problem being that you would probably not be where I am when I break down. If a business such as your existed in many places that would be cool.
Also, if you do let trucks park make sure you kick out and ban any guy caught dumping any trash or piss bottles on the ground.snowman_w900, johndeere4020, TripleSix and 2 others Thank this. -
idea sounds terrific...be careful with 1031 exchanges it calls for specialists...if you cash in your retirement fund, then you took possession of the money and are subject to penalties...Google 1031 Specialists and they'll help you with it...The Specialist takes possession of the money and execute the exchange for you...they charge a fee but it's much less than the penalties of cashing in your retirement account.
johndeere4020, Oxbow and RGN Thank this. -
I'm leased on to a guy that has all that but the store next door. He wife brings out some great viddles though.

I like the idea!!!!
My only concern is you may end up married to it...Oxbow, RGN, Ruthless and 1 other person Thank this. -
10-20 spots. $100/month. Offer half off to a driver to pick up any trash when he comes in.

Great idea RGN! It might be tough to keep tools from walking out, and figuring out how much you need to charge could take awhile. It would be really cool if a parts store would deliver filters/oil and misc. repair parts as needed. I think local guys that don't have their own facility would be really interested, as well as other folks that ran through your area frequently.
I'm sure that you have already thought of a lot of the problems that could arise like scheduling the shop, liability insurance for someone using your tools and shop, etc., but surely these things can be overcome.Last edited: Feb 4, 2017

I'm thinking RV park. You could give retired Lowbed drivers free camping. lol. Sounds like the start of a truck stop/repair shop.

I don't know how many times I would have been happy to pay $100 just to get in out of the weather in order to perform service or minor repair!RGN, KenworthGuyNH, SAR and 1 other person Thank this.

Great idea. You'd probably make more, franchising the idea.
