I would like some input I have a n14 it had lost oil pressure so my "what I thought was a mechanic" put a new cam, followers, rods and mains in it. Now I have a head gasket leaking so my thoughts are to just go ahead and do an inframe. My question is are there anything else I should do or have my new Mechanic replace while he is in it.

There are three heads so maybe can just pull the one head and see what the liners look like.

Ya I was thinking about that option but I just bought the truck so I'm thinking about doing a full build so I know I will get a good run out of it hopefully. I just wasn't sure if I should change anything else while I was in it. Thanks for the input.

Well if your gonna do a full inframe, id also do 3 recon heads, head bolts (unless you measure them for stretch past spec) replace the piston squirters, oil pump, fuel lines going from the heads to the pump to go with it.
If you have the extra cash......injectors and turbo and balancer.
Rebuild jakes with new solenoids and slave valves and springs. Whole kit.
Check all the plastic injector passthru connectors at the rocker boxes.
Check all push tubes for straightness, check rocker shafts for excessive wear, check rocker arm bushings for excessive wear. Replace those as needed.
Plastigauge your main caps/bearings. Check the block really good for fretting. Sometimes those main caps will destroy a block from walking around!Last edited: Feb 16, 2017
Atruck, SAR, passingthru69 and 3 others Thank this. -
Everything he said! And,
From the little knowledge I have in owning one - the front cover bushing to the compressor/fuel pump gets to leaking - I had mine replaced.
Cam follower gaskets - and I am told the shims affect timing so must be correct.
I'd replace oil pump. I did piston oilers as well.Atruck, OLDSKOOLERnWV and snowman_w900 Thank this. -
As @blairandgretchen mentioned, replace the bushing and the seal in the accessory drive, you will have to remove the compressor and accessory drive shaft itself for that. This is a Big Cam in the picture but will help illustrate.

When I bought my truck it had engine failure so I knew it would be a project. DON'T go crazy with silicone..... I found that stuff in the oilpan suction, in the radiator when I recored it, it was everywhere!! Every mating surface on the sides of the engine showed excessive use of red silicone.
blairandgretchen, Heavyd and snowman_w900 Thank this. -
You should also replace the cam bearings.
