All of my tractors have one registration plate on the front. I was talking to another owner and he said that you're supposed to have 2 on your tractor. He claims he was bobtailing in New Jersey and got a citation for just having one plate.

Is he full of it or is this really the case????

He is full of it, your only required to display your front license plate on a tractor, if it's a straight truck you need two, Like a dump truck for example.

Depends on state. Here in WA you are required to have two. If you are bobtailing and don't have rear plate displayed its a ticket.

Ah my state, IL doesn't even issue 2 plates. I'm running OH IRP plates now and they only issue 1 plate. Heck, I don't even have a rear license plate holder/bracket.

If the truck is plated in NJ front and rear required. If not it should be easy to have ticket tossed.

One for your home ternimal State and that's pretty much it.

Unless.... you go to Oregon, now you need a red plate issued by them. That is one thing for example. I don't want to say anything more to confuse anyone.

PA issues only one plate and they don't get bothered in NJ.

My fleet is leased form Penske through a NJ location and we are located in NJ but he tractors all have one Indiana plate on the front. No problems with the local cops or the state troopers.
