I have a question about DOT physicals and a specific condition if anyone has any experience with it. When I started driving two years ago my Doc put me on Ditropan XR for controlling minor UIC, but after a recent follow up we found its starting to affect my BP so to keep driving I had to be taken off it, no big deal the only issue now having to use diaper briefs regularly instead of just sleeping and if meds ran low before home time.
Will a medical incontinence issue requiring the use of a diaper on a constant basis need to have a doctors release letter or should it be fine without. No there is no underlying cause I've dealt with this since I was a kid, it's a stunted development problem that is the result of alcohol related pregnancy. (Mother was not in a good place back then)
I know none of us are doctors but I figured with as many drivers in the US of all age groups, someone has to of come across this before. I understand the social Taboo on this all too well if you don't want to answer here just PM me.
Serious question about DOT physical

No medical subject should be taboo, and my hat is off to you for stepping up and posting. I grew up with a friend that has had the same issue since birth. Please post what you find, there will be others you will be helping.

Thanks I'll begin looking through this I doubt an issue like incontinence is bound to change between this and the new one.

Yeah I agree. While no medical issue should be taboo the issue of diapers is highly looked down on as something "just for babies" out side of the medical world or those who have direct experience. I was fortunate enough to be born in 1991 so by 1996 when I started school larger pull on style diapers designed for bedwetting kids 5-13 years old were starting to become common and I was able to manage it all myself, but kids are cruel merciless ########. The teasing and bullying was quite bad and continued up into adulthood in some cases. I could easily make a living in computer programming or IT, but being around the same people everyday would take its toll, that's why I got into driving so I wouldn't have to deal with peoples idiocracy.crb, UsualSuspect, Mark Kling and 1 other person Thank this.

If someone is not taking any drug that the D.O.T has band for truck driver I guess no reason to stop anyone from passing D.O.T physical. You can always go get a D.O.T physical and ask the doctor. The doctor have to be on the Nation register. So they all pretty much go by the same standards.

Now that I think about it I know someone who has a colostomy bag and drives OTR. I just texted him and he said no one ever asked, and the Doctors keep giving him a 2 year card. He said there is nothing on the questionnaire about it, so it is most likely no big deal.

It's not a scheduled drug and is used mostly only for leaking bladders according to several sources.
BP is not one of the things shown to be a problem traceable to this drug. I suspect it may be something else entirely.
It would be easier for those of us who understand BP to publish the higher BP Values you are experiencing. You cannot be too high in CDL work. Keep an eye on that BP thing.
As far as the Taboo stuff. In this day and age of internet bedwetting or other problems in childhood or infancy would be easier to look for information online than what it was without any net 40 to 50 years ago.
Most of the time truckers don't hydrate as much as they should theoratically they only pee like twice a week or something. Which is why back in the beginning of 1994 drug test enforcement it was a common problem not to be able to generate sufficient urine on demand to take a drug test. -
Had to post up, this is too good to pass by. First of all, you're not the only one. I too suffer from control issues. I have a neurogenic bladder, and as I've grown older(31 now) I'm starting to lose more control. Personally I don't really care if people should worry about what underwear people are wearing. It's an invisible illness that is looked down upon, and society would rather belittle than mind their own business.
With that aside, the last two medicals I've had, I stated my continence issues. And was given a pad to sit under. But my renewal is coming up, and I'm highly considering wearing a diaper to calm my anxiety of worrying if I'm going to pee myself while I wait for the doctor. The last time I was there I got nervous i was going to per, and my blood pressure spiked. I'm also scared btw... -
Can you take blood pressure medicine to counteract your medicine's side-effects? Is there some interaction problem?
